Topic: FAITHFUL SERVANTS/FOLLOWERS – Part 2
MEMORIZE: “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:21.
SCRIPTURE READING: 2 Samuel 7:15-17.
“When the Philistines were at war again with Israel, David and his servants with him went down and fought against the Philistines; and David grew faint. Then Ishbi-Benob, who was one of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose bronze spear was three hundred shekels, who was bearing a new sword, thought he could kill David. But Abishai the son of Zeruiah came to his aid, and struck the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, "You shall go out no more with us to battle, lest you quench the lamp of Israel."
EXPOSITION:
Lessons Derived From David-Abishai Relationship
i. Abishai was one of the four hundreds vain men that came unto David when he was running away from king Saul.
ii. He, together with others, were trained and transformed from ordinary to mighty men of David.
iii. He took after his master (David) in brevity – “Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee. So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him. Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.” 2 Samuel 26:6-9.
“And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred, and slew them, and had the name among three.” 2 Samuel 23:18.
iv. When David was fainted and was about to be killed, Abishai rose up, risked his life and kill “Ishbi-Benob, who was one of the sons of the giant” thereby rescued David from the sword of the enemy. He was found faithful and helpful to David. No wonder he was called “one of the mighty men of David.” God still compensate the faithful servant/follower with greatness and establish them in honor. Jesus said, “If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?” Lu 16:11-12.
Are a faithful servant/follower to your boss / leaders? Can he/she trust you blindly? Can you rescue him/her at the point of death? Know for sure that faithfulness is not stupidity! God rewards the faithful servants. What kind of relationship do you have with you leader? Can your leader see you as a saviour or a murderer? Answer this questions; and it will define who you are.
PRAYER POINT:
Lord, furnish my life with faithful servants like Abishai and help me to be a faithful follower/leader to those who need my help too in Jesus name.
