Topic: THE COMPASSIONATE GOD
MEMORIZE: "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9.
SCRIPTURE READING: Jonah 4:9-11.
“Then God said to Jonah, "Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?" And he said, "It is right for me to be angry, even to death!" But the LORD said, "You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night."And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left-and much livestock?"
EXPOSITION:
Nineveh was known to be very wicked and sinful to the extent prophet Jonah would not want to preach repentance to them but rather wished they perish, though this is against the ethics of his profession. But what God saw was different from what his prophet saw – God saw readiness of the people to repent and turn from their wickedness but the prophet saw more wickedness in them and possibility of God not punishing their wickedness because He is compassionate God.
At the end, the Ninevites repented and God had mercy on them and forgave them. No sinner that God cannot forgive once there is genuine repentance. God is compassionate and ready to forgive even the worst of men. But you can only access this precious compassion of God through your genuine repentance from your sins and never to return into it again. God is indeed the compassionate God.
As it is written "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9. The price of our redemption that Jesus paid in full is for all. God has no pleasure in the death of sinners but waits patiently to see them repent and return to Him. If you are the one God is speaking to today, repent sincerely of your sins and return wholly unto God and He will have compassion on you. Today is the day of salvation for as many that are not sure of their names written in the book of life. Seek God now while He may be found, tomorrow may be too late.
PRAYER POINT:
Pray for the salvation of as many who are yet to give their lives to the Lord so that the death and the compassion of the Lord will not be wasted in Jesus name.
