ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For SATURDAY, 8TH APRIL, 2023.
Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer
Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l
Topic: WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH JESUS?
MEMORIZE: “He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” John 1:11-12.
SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Peter 2:21=25.
“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”
EXPOSITION:
The life of Jesus on earth may be divided into two great periods, (1) that of his private life, till he was about thirty years of age; and (2) that of his public life, which lasted about three years. He entered on his public ministry when he was about thirty years of age. It is generally reckoned to have extended to about three years. "Each of these years had peculiar features of its own.
(1.) The first year may be called the year of obscurity, both because the records of it which we possess are very scanty, and because he seems during it to have been only slowly emerging into public notice. It was spent for the most part in Judea.
(2.) The second year was the year of public favour, during which the country had become thoroughly aware of him; his activity was incessant, and his fame rang through the length and breadth of the land. It was almost wholly passed in Galilee.
(3.) The third was the year of opposition, when the public favour ebbed (went) away. His enemies multiplied and assailed him with more and more pertinacity, and at last he fell a victim to their hatred. The first six months of this final year were passed in Galilee, and the last six in other parts of the land.", Stalker's Life of Jesus Christ, p. 45.
Jesus came to the world to make himself an atonement for the sin of man (Isa 53:4-6, 8, 11-12); it was not for any sin of his own that he suffered, Isaiah 53:9. He bore his sufferings with an invincible and exemplary patience, Isa 53:7. And he prospered in his undertaking, and his sufferings ended in his immortal honour, Isa 53:10-12.
He came to set the captives free from eternal bondage of sins by his suffering and death. But yet, the world hates him and would not want to accept him as the Son of God and the Saviour of the world. “He came to his own, but his own receive him not.” John 1:11. What are you doing with Jesus? Are you in favour with him or in opposition? Your decision here on earth will define your place in eternity either to be with Him or to be in hell fire.
LET'S LOOK AT PEOPLE'S DIFFERENT ATTITUDE TO JESUS' DEATH
1. Peter denied him three times when he needed him most.
2. Judas betrayed him with kiss
3. The priests Anna and Caiapher conspired and plotted against him. They even sought for false witnesses again him.
4. Pilate and others soldiers beat him and crucified him.
5. The soldiers mocked him.
6. The crowd rejected him unto crucifixion.
6. Barrabas was set free because of him.
7. A thief on the CROSS ridiculed him, doubted his innocence.
8. The women wept and wailed for him. They were the first to visit the sepulchre on the third day and met him resurrected.
9. His disciples deserted him and even forgot his promise of resurrection.
10. Thomas doubted his resurrection.
11. The soldiers were paid to watch over his grave so that he will not resurrect or be stolen by his disciples.
12. The priest and elders paid the soldiers after his resurrection to lie that the disciples have stolen him away at night.
13. Joseph of Arimathea let him his sepulchre.
14. The Angels rolled away the stone from the sepulchre.
15. God, the Father, raised him up to life from death.
What is your own contribution to Jesus Christ? He needs you to have faith in Him.
Therefore, by mixing faith with the prophecy (the word of God), we may improve our acquaintance with Jesus Christ and him crucified, with Jesus Christ and him glorified, dying for our sins and rising again for our justification. Jesus had paid the price of our redemption in full. If you die in your sin, you will fear your condemnation eternally. Decide when it is called "today".No repentance in the grave - Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” Shalom!
PRAYER POINT: Led, open the inner eyes of sinners to see, understand and accept you as their Lord and personal Saviour Now before it is too late in Jesus name.
DAILY BIBLE READING IN A YEAR – 2 Kings 1-3.
