PRAYER: HOW SHOULD WE PRAY?

THURSDAY, 11TH JANUARY, 2024.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

TOPIC: PRAYER: HOW SHOULD WE PRAY?

MEMORIZE: “Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

EXPOSITION:

As the children of God, we have known that prayer is the only way to communicate and relate with God. But how should we pray to make it acceptable to God? These are some ways the Holy Bible explains how men of old prayed to God in their days as examples to us today.

IN JESUS’ NAME, ALL HEAVEN WILL OPEN TO SUCH PRAYER.  “"And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:13; “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”  John 15:16.

IN FAITH, NOT WAVERING. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” James 1:5-8.

WITH THANKSGIVING. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;” Philippians 4:6.

LISTEN AS WELL AS TALK. “I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected. 2 Then the LORD answered me and said: "Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.” Habakkuk 2:1, 2.

ALONE. “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He {Jesus} went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” Mark 1:35;

* “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.” Matthew 14:23.

AS A FAMILY, GROUP, OR CHURCH. “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. 20 "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."” Matthew 18:19, 20.

CHRIST KNELT DOWN AND PRAYED. “When He came to the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." 41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and prayed,” Luke 22:40, 41.

* David admonished us to kneel down before God in prayer - Psalm 95:6 “Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.”;

* Daniel knelt down when he was praying regularly as his custom - Daniel 6:10 “Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.”;

* Apostle Paul as practiced kneeling down in prayer - Acts 20:36 “And when he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all.”.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, help my prayer life to grow to fruition through the help of the Holy Spirit in Jesus name.
