THE PRIVILEGES OF GOD'S PECULIAR PEOPLE

 SATURDAY, 6TH JANUARY, 2024.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

TOPIC: THE PRIVILEGES OF GOD'S PECULIAR PEOPLE

MEMORIZE: “He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.” Psalms 24:5.

SCRIPTURE READING: “He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob.” Psalms 24:5-6.

EXPOSITION:

The privileges of God's peculiar people, Ps 24:5. They shall be made truly and forever happy.

(1.) THEY SHALL BE BLESSED: They shall receive the blessing from the Lord, all the fruits and gifts of God's favour, according to his promise; and those whom God blesses are blessed indeed, for it is his prerogative to command the blessing.

(2.) THEY SHALL BE JUSTIFIED AND SANCTIFIED. These are the spiritual blessings in heavenly things which they shall receive, even righteousness, the very thing they hunger and thirst after, Mt 5:6. Righteousness is blessedness, and it is from God only that we must expect it, for we have no righteousness of our own. They shall receive the reward of their righteousness (so some), the crown of righteousness which the righteous Judge shall give, 2Ti 4:8.

(3.) THEY SHALL BE SAVED; for God himself will be the God of their salvation. Note, Where God gives righteousness, he certainly designs salvation. Those that are made meet for heaven shall be brought safely to heaven, and then they will find what they have been seeking, to their endless satisfaction.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, fill my heart and life with joy and blessings of serving you in Jesus name.

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE

SUNDAY, 7TH JANUARY, 2024.

TOPIC: CAN THE RUSH GROW UP WITHOUT MIRE?

MEMORIZE: Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water? Job 8:11

SCRIPTURE READING: Job 8:8-18

“For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers: 9 (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)  10 Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart? 11 Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water? 12 Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb. 13 So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: 14 Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.  15 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure. 16 He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden. 17 His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones. 18 If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.”

EXPOSITION:

The rush is spongy and hollow, and even so is a hypocrite; there is no substance or stability in him. It is shaken to and fro in every wind just as formalists yield to every influence; for this reason the rush is not broken by the tempest, neither are hypocrites troubled with persecution. I would not willingly be a deceiver or be deceived; perhaps the text for this day may help me to try myself whether I be a hypocrite or no. The rush by nature lives in water, and owes its very existence to the mire and moisture wherein it has taken root; let the mire become dry, and the rush withers very quickly. Its greenness is absolutely dependent upon circumstances, a present abundance of water makes it flourish, and a drought destroys it at once.

Is this my case? Do I only serve God when I am in good company, or when religion is profitable and respectable? Do I love the Lord only when temporal comforts are received from his hands? If so I am a base hypocrite, and like the withering rush, I shall perish when death deprives me of outward joys. But can I honestly assert that when bodily comforts have been few, and my surroundings have been rather adverse to grace than at all helpful to it, I have still held fast my integrity? Then have I hope that there is genuine vital godliness in me. The rush cannot grow without mire, but plants of the Lord’s right hand planting can and do flourish even in the year of drought – “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Psalm 1:3.

A godly man often grows best when his worldly circumstances decay. He who follows Christ for his bag is a Judas; they who follow for loaves and fishes are children of the devil; but they who attend him out of love to himself are his own beloved ones.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, let me find my life in thee, and not in the mire of this world’s favour or gain.
