Topic: WHEN OTHERS MISUNDERSTOOD YOUR GOOD DEEDS – Part 1

MEMORIZE: "Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken." (Amos 5:14).

SCRIPTURE READING: John 12:3-8.

“Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who would betray Him, said, "Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it. But Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. "For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always."” 

EXPOSITION:

Action and motive are two things in life that are inseparable; they journey together always. Our motive is what God judges mostly, not our action. Many times, our deeds may be good but the motive behind it might be evil and selfish. On the other time, people may judge our action to be evil and uncalled for, yet the motive will be God-honouring and blessed.

Such is the case with Mary’s action, the sister of Lazarus (who was raised from the dead on the fourth day by our Lord Jesus – John 12:1). She came with a very precious “costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair.” John 12:3. This looks foolish. Judas Iscariot said, "Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?"… But Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial."For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always." John 12:4-8.

Brethren, people around you may not see good in what you are doing. They may call your giving attitude toward kingdom service a waste. They may call you fool for being religious. They may call you all kinds of names because you are submissive to your spouse in love and fear of God. Remember, they are not God. Let your action and your motive be in line with God, let it wins divine approval and your accusers shall be silenced. 


PRAYER POINT: 

Lord, I receive grace to remain secure in you and see things in your own way in Jesus name.

OBEDIENCE: THE NEW TESTAMENT CONCEPTION

MEMORIZE: "Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name." (Romans 1:5).

SCRIPTURE READING: Philippians 2:6-8.

“…Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” 


EXPOSITION:

In the New Testament a higher spiritual and moral relation is sustained than in the Old Testament. The importance of obedience is just as greatly emphasized. Christ Himself is its one great illustration of obedience. He "humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross" (Philippians 2:8). By obedience to Him we are through Him made partakers of His salvation – “And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.” (Hebrews 5:9).This act is a supreme test of faith in Christ. Indeed, it is so vitally related that they are in some cases almost synonymous. "Obedience of faith" is a combination used by Paul to express this idea - "Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name." (Romans 1:5). Peter designates believers in Christ as "children of obedience". “as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance.” (1 Peter 1:14). Thus it is seen that the test of fellowship with Yahweh in the Old Testament is obedience. The bond of union with Christ In the New Testament is obedience through faith, by which they become identified and the believer becomes a disciple.


PRAYER POINT: 

Lord, I receive grace to obey  you by faith till I see you face to face in glory in Jesus name.

Topic: OBEDIENCE: THE OLD TESTAMENT CONCEPTION

MEMORIZE: "This shall come to pass, if ye will diligently obey the voice of Yahweh your God" (Zechariah 6:15).

SCRIPTURE READING: Isaiah 1:19-20.

“If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword"; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” 

EXPOSITION:

The highest significance of its usage, however, is that of the relation of man to God. Obedience is the supreme test of faith in God and reverence for Him. The Old Testament conception of obedience was vital. It was the one important relationship which must not be broken. While sometimes this relation may have been formal and cold, it nevertheless was the one strong tie which held the people close to God. The significant spiritual relation is expressed by Samuel when he asks the question, "Hath Yahweh has great delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Yahweh? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams" (1 Samuel 15:22). It was the condition without which no right relation might be sustained to Yahweh. This is most clearly stated in the relation between Abraham and Yahweh when he is assured "In thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice" (Genesis 22:18).

In prophetic utterances, future blessing and prosperity were conditioned upon obedience: "If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land" (Isaiah 1:19). After surveying the glories of the Messianic kingdom, the prophet assures the people that "this shall come to pass, if ye will diligently obey the voice of Yahweh your God" (Zechariah 6:15). On the other hand misfortune, calamity, distress and famine are due to their disobedience and distrust of Yahweh. 

This obedience or disobedience was usually related to the specific commands of Yahweh as contained in the law, yet they conceived of God as giving commands by other means. Note especially the rebuke of Samuel to Saul: "Because thou obeyedst not the voice of Yahweh, ...therefore hath Yahweh done this thing unto thee this day" (1 Samuel 28:18).


PRAYER POINT: 

Lord, help your Church to truly understand the concept of obedience and to give herself to it in Jesus name.

Topic: THE TEST OF YOUR OBEDIENCE – Part 2

MEMORIZE: “Thus says the LORD: "Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'”  Jeremiah 6:16.

SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Samuel 15:22-23.

“Then Samuel said: "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king."” 

EXPOSITION:

Obedience is what God demands from His children, if we will be accepted in our walk with Him. Remember, king Saul was rejected because of his repeated act of disobedience to God. At first, Samuel (the high priest of Israel and his father in the Lord) told him to wait for him for seven days, but because he saw the philistines drawing nearer to him and the sacrifice has not been made unto the Lord because of Samuel’s absence… on the seventh day, his men (soldiers) because of fear of the enemies were departing from him to secure their lives. Therefore, Saul pushed himself into priestly duty and made a burnt sacrifice. Shortly as he was done with the sacrifice, Samuel appeared, still on the seventh day. The judgment of God for his action was… “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which He commanded you. For now the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever."But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you."” 1 Samuel 13:13-14. (Read 1  Samuel chapter 13 in your Bible).

At another instance, the merciful God gave him second chance to amend his way before God, so that his throne can be established but again he wasted it in disobedience. God sent him to go and utterly destroy Amalekites, not spare anyone including the suckling babies. But he spared many things including their king, Agag, possibly to show his strength and his worth. But God would never celebrate disobedience. At this time, God was tired of him, having seen him to be a man who will never learn from his fallen. The verdict of God on him was… “Then Samuel said: "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king."” 1 Samuel 15:22-23.

In this Scripture, Saul’s disobedience was called sin of rebellion which was likening to witchcraft and also stubbornness which is also liken to iniquity and idolatry. These are capital offence in Israel worth of death by stoning. Disobedience makes us not better than witches and idol worshippers. How can we now enjoy His goodness when we position ourselves for His judgment? True repentance is the answer and stop disobeying Him. All acts of disobedience to God is an intentional act as we have it in our today’s memory verse - Jeremiah 6:16. 


PRAYER POINT: 

i. LORD, I receive grace to be obedient to you in Jesus name.

ii. I receive victory over the deception of the enemy capable of luring me into disobeying you in Jesus name.

Topic: THE TEST OF YOUR OBEDIENCE

MEMORIZE: “Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, From your family And from your father's house, To a land that I will show you." Genesis 12:1.

SCRIPTURE READING: Genesis 12:1-4.

 “Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, From your family And from your father's house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.” 

EXPOSITION:

Obedience in its simpler Old Testament meaning the word signifies "to hear," "to listen." It carries with it, however, the ethical significance of hearing with reverence and obedient assent. In the New Testament a different origin is suggestive of "hearing under" or of subordinating one's self to the person or thing heard, hence, "to obey." There is another New Testament usage, however, indicating persuasion from.

The relation expressed is two-fold: first, human, as between master and servant, and particularly between parents and children. "If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, that, will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and, though they chasten him, will not hearken unto them; then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place" (Deuteronomy 21:18, 19; compare Proverbs 15:20); or between sovereign and subjects, "The foreigners shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me" (2 Samuel 22:45; 1Chronicles 29:23).

In our text today, God tested the obedience of Abraham as He asked him to leave his father’s house and country to a land unknown. Some of things he would have forfeited includes: (a) His father’s house   (b) His father’s inherited landed property, etc, In obedience, he left all to follow God. At the end, he has nothing to loss. 

How are you obeying your heavenly father (God)? Partial obedience equals disobedience. How you obeying only when it is convenient? Before great thing of the kingdom can be handed over to you, you must pass the test of obedience to God and the constituted authority. Many of our fathers in faith learned obedience in hard way – people like prophet Jonah. Don’t be like him.

PRAYER POINT: 

LORD, I don’t want to learn obedience in hard way. Help me and my family to follow you willingly and obediently in Jesus name.

EXPOSITION OF REVELATION 12:1-17

Topic: EXPOSITION OF REVELATION 12:1-17.

MEMORIZE: "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death." Revelation 12:11.

SCRIPTURE READING: Revelation 12:1-17.

EXPOSITION:

The story of a woman with a man child and dragon was recorded in Revelation 12:1-17.

12 v. 1 A woman – This woman refers to the faithful of Israel through whom the Messiah  (i.e. the Christ child, vv 2,4-5) came into the world (cf. Romans 9:5). This is indicated not only by the birth of the child, but also by the reference to the sun and the moon (see Genesis 37:9-11) and the twelve stars, which would naturally refer to the twelve tribes of Israel.

12 v. 3 – a great red dragon – This dragon is Satan.

12 v. 4 third part of the stars refers to the original fall of satan from heaven and the angels who fell with him or to his ruthless and destructive power in the universe generally over those who oppose him. Satan  attempts unsuccessfully to destroy Jesus as an infant (cf. v. 5; Matt. 2:16-18).

12 v. 5 – a man child is Jesus Christ and the snatching up of the child refers to His ascension into heaven after His resurrection.

12:6 – The woman fled – the woman refers to the persecuted faithful ones of Israel during the last half of the tribulation (cf. the 1260 days, exactly half of the tribulation period.) 

1. During the tribulation, the faithful of Israel are God fearing Jews who oppose the religion of the antichrist. Sincerely searching the Scriptures, they accept the truth about Jesus Christ as Messiah (Deut. 4:30-31; Zech. 13:8-9). They receive God’s covering and help during the last three and a half years of the tribulation, and satan will not be allowed to overcome them completely – vv 13-16

2. Those of Israel who accept the religion of the antichrist and reject the Scriptural truth of the Messiah will be judged and destroyed in the days of great tribulation – Ezek. 11:17-21; 20:34-38; Zech. 13:8-9.

12 v. 13 persecuted the woman – satan attempts to destroy the woman, those from Israel who accept Christ will be hunted and persecuted by satan and the followers of the antichrist (cf. Matt. 24:15-21). God will give supernatural protection for the saints of Israel during this time – vv. 14-16.

12 v. 16 the earth that help the woman is supernatural way of God helping the faithful Jews with probably earthquake which proclaims the action that helps the woman (Israel) hurts the dragon. Even though god permits the devil to do his work in the world, God is still in control. And Jesus has complete power over satan – He defeated satan when he died and rose again for the sins of mankind. One day, satan will be bound forever, never again to do his evil work – rev. 20;10.


PRAYER POINT: LORD, help your Church to hold on to the victory you have given to her by your death and resurrection uncompromisingly in Jesus name.

UNDER FIRE?

SUNDAY, 24TH JULY, 2022

Topic: UNDER FIRE

SCRIPTURE READING: Jeremiah 20:7-18.

MEMORIZE: "Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I should not stay" (Jeremiah 20:9)._

One of the most gifted speakers in church history was John Chrysostom. The name comes from a Greek word meaning 'golden tongue.' John was sent from Antioch to what was then Constantinople, where he preached fearlessly in the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. His denunciation of the lavish extravagance of the rich and ruling class and his condemnation of excess, infuriated many, including Empress Eudoxia who arranged for him to be exiled. But John held firm to his faith, and never compromised though under the most extreme conditions.

Prophet Jeremiah had endured so much persecution and opposition from his own countrymen, especially from the rulers and his fellow priests who denounced him as a paid agent of the Chaldeans because he prophesied about Israel's coming captivity to Babylon. He was ridiculed, put in prison several times and almost killed. It appeared the pains and injuries had taken its toll on Jeremiah who felt very discouraged but later regained his composure.

Preaching is not a profession but a passion. It is an assignment given by God that requires grace to fulfill. It is like swimming against the tide, especially when, like Jeremiah, you are charged with the responsibility of warning nations about the coming judgement of God. Words are insufficient to describe the deep inner agony and burdens preachers endure.

Despite all the pains, the preacher is not expected to betray the trust but to stand firm as God's messenger of hope and life to those who mourn. While in pains themselves, servants of God minister comfort to others. While bearing so much injury personally, the pastors, in addition, bear the burden of others. Please pray for your pastors! Through your prayer, he will obtain more grace to offer sacrificial service to the Lord.


PRAYER POINT: Praying for your pastor amounts to edifying the body of Christ. Intercede for your pastor and the body of Christ now as God leads you.

DIVINE MERCY

SATURDAY, 23RD JULY, 2022.

Topic: DIVINE MERCY.

MEMORIZE: But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us.  Ephesians 2:4

BIBLE READING: Romans 9:15-16 

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”

EXPOSITION:

The only reason you and I are still alive today is God’s mercy. Divine mercy is that important (Lamentations 3:22). We can rejoice however, that God is very rich in mercy and as a matter of fact, He is the Father of mercies, He gives His mercy to us as a gift every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23, 2nd Corinthians 1:3).

His mercy guides you in your journey through life. In His mercy, you meet certain people who help you fulfill destiny; you also avoid certain people or actions that might lead you astray. It is by this same mercy that we receive forgiveness of sin and cleansing by the blood of Jesus. We are now standing before God without blemish as if we had never sinned before.

God’s mercy guides His people unto greener pasture, a blessed and flourishing destination. Exodus 15:13 says: " You in Your mercy have led forth The people whom You have redeemed; You have guided them in Your strength To Your holy habitation.” 

God does not need permission from anyone to show you mercy. Romans 9:15 says: “For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”

While others may struggle, He can promote you effortlessly. If you ever want to get results, His mercy is the most essential factor. “But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.” Genesis 39:21. Joseph enjoyed favour even in the prison because of God’s mercy. If you need anyone to favour you, seek God’s mercy first. He will grant you favour before them in the mighty name of Jesus.


PRAYER POINT:

Lord, show me mercy in every area in the mighty name of Jesus.

SEPARATED FROM UNCLEANLINESS - Part 2

FRIDAY, 22ND JULY, 2022.

Topic: SEPARATED FROM UNCLEANNESS – Part 2

MEMORIZE: "Therefore "Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you."" (2 Cor. 6:17).

SCRIPTURE READING: Leviticus 7:19-21.

“'The flesh that touches any unclean thing shall not be eaten. It shall be burned with fire. And as for the clean flesh, all who are clean may eat of it. 'But the person who eats the flesh of the sacrifice of the peace offering that belongs to the LORD, while he is unclean, that person shall be cut off from his people. 'Moreover the person who touches any unclean thing, such as human uncleanness, an unclean animal, or any abominable unclean thing, and who eats the flesh of the sacrifice of the peace offering that belongs to the LORD, that person shall be cut off from his people.'"

EXPOSITION:

"We are not to be isolated but insulated," said Vance Havner, "moving in the midst of evil but untouched by it." Jesus was holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners; yet He was "a friend of tax collectors and sinners."

Chapter 17 of Leviticus deals with the subject of separation of a man or woman for a period of time due to some natural uncleanness. During this period of separation, he or she is disallowed from socializing closely with friends and from going to the house of God or touching any of the holy things. A mandatory ceremony and offering for cleansing is then required before a reunion with people and the house of God can be possible. This comprises two doves and two young pigeons, the one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.

Some people have taken the matter of Old Testament separation of women for reasons of uncleanness beyond boundary. It is important to highlight that these Old Testament laws affected both men and women and no mention is made about separating women from the house of God on account of natural uncleanness in the New Testament.

We are to be separate enough from immorality and ungodliness that it does not influence us. The Bible makes it clear that we should "come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord." But whilst we steer clear from the world's pollutions, we are expected to be close enough so that we can minister to those who are trapped in all forms of uncleanness. The heaven-bound believer is only in the world but not of the world.


PRAYER POINT: LORD, let your fire purge me and your Church of every form of uncleanness in Jesus name.

MEMORIZE: "Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation" (Leviticus 15:26).

SCRIPTURE READING: LEVITICUS 15:19-33.

“'If a woman has a discharge, and the discharge from her body is blood, she shall be set apart seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening. 'Everything that she lies on during her impurity shall be unclean; also everything that she sits on shall be unclean. 'Whoever touches her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 'And whoever touches anything that she sat on shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 'If anything is on her bed or on anything on which she sits, when he touches it, he shall be unclean until evening. 'And if any man lies with her at all, so that her impurity is on him, he shall be unclean seven days; and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean. 'If a woman has a discharge of blood for many days, other than at the time of her customary impurity, or if it runs beyond her usual time of impurity, all the days of her unclean discharge shall be as the days of her customary impurity. She shall be unclean. 'Every bed on which she lies all the days of her discharge shall be to her as the bed of her impurity; and whatever she sits on shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her impurity. 'Whoever touches those things shall be unclean; he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 'But if she is cleansed of her discharge, then she shall count for herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean. 'And on the eighth day she shall take for herself two turtledoves or two young pigeons, and bring them to the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 'Then the priest shall offer the one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, and the priest shall make atonement for her before the LORD for the discharge of her uncleanness. 'Thus you shall separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness, lest they die in their uncleanness when they defile My tabernacle that is among them. 'This is the law for one who has a discharge, and for him who emits semen and is unclean thereby, 'and for her who is indisposed because of her customary impurity, and for one who has a discharge, either man or woman, and for him who lies with her who is unclean.'"”


EXPOSITION:

Cleanliness is next to godliness. The ceremonial laws of "touch not", "eat not" were for the Jews, and Christians are no more bound by them Colossians 2:20-22. However, there are clear lessons and applications to draw from cleanliness.

a. God detests all forms of physical filthiness and uncleanness. You will not see a trace in heaven. "Thy will be done on earth, as it is done in heaven." Have you ever heard or read of angels appearing to people in a dirty toilet?

b. Moral uncleanness is also hated by God 2 Corinthians 6:17.

c. All unrighteousness are classified as uncleanness 2 Corinthians 6:14,17.

d. Separation from all uncleanness is a condition for sonship 2 Corinthians 6:17,18.

e. There are uncleanness of the flesh (carnal, observable sins usually manifesting through parts of human body), and uncleanness of the spirit (generally only known to the person and visible to God only e.g. lust in the heart, good action but evil intention, love of praise of men more than God) 2 Corinthians 7:1.

f. Exposure to uncleanness and undue closeness to an unclean person can make someone unclean too vv20,21. So there must be care even when trying to help Jude 21-23.

g. No uncleanness can be ignored. All attracts capital punishment v31.

h. To be totally free and remain free, there is the human part of separation from appearances of sin that are not sin in themselves vv21,27, I Thessalonians 5:22, 2 Corinthians 6: 17.

h. All uncleanness can only be purged by the blood of Jesus vv29,30, Hebrews 9:22.

Self examination: Are you free from all the filthiness of the flesh and the spirit?


PRAYER POINT: Holy Spirit, convict me of any hidden filthiness afresh. 

i. I ask the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse me totally from it. I promise to separate myself from all sources of uncleanness in Jesus name.

ii. Ask the blood of Jesus to purge our youths in the Church and give them power to always say NO to sin and all forms of pollutions in Jesus name.

iii. LORD, let your fire purge the church of every form of uncleanness in Jesus name.

WAS IT THE DEVIL?

WEDNESDAY, 20TH JULY, 2022.

Topic: WAS IT THE DEVIL?

MEMORIZE: "And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath" (Jeremiah 21:5)._

SCRIPTURE READING: Jeremiah 21:1-14.

EXPOSITION:

Satan is blamed for everything evil. A thief who is caught red-handed with stolen items blames the 'devil' for pushing him into the act. This happens often whenever people need a convenient scapegoat to bear the blame for their shortcomings and failings in life. While there is a certain sense in which that can be true, it fails to take into consideration all the other issues, including our own personal responsibility for our actions.

Jeremiah told a stunned delegate from Zedekiah, king of Judah, that God Himself was fighting against Israel for their utter disregard for divine instructions and their willful practice of idolatry. With this revelation, Israel was now doomed to surrender to their enemies, go into captivity and have their beautiful cities and the temple burnt with fire. God promised to withdraw His protection over His own people, assist the Babylonians in gaining access into the city and ensure Israel was defeated. Only those who surrendered to the Babylonians were guaranteed their lives. The king of Judah together with his counsellors were worried about the Babylonians who were already laying siege to Jerusalem without considering that their main enemies were themselves and that God was responsible for this scourge.

Most times, we blame the devil for being behind our troubles. If it is not the devil, then it must be the work of an enemy somewhere, perhaps a witch or wizard in the village who has cast a spell on us. But the first thing to do whenever things go wrong is to look inwards, pray and find out if our ways are right with God. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14). Better to first look inwards, when challenges arise.


PRAYER POINT: LORD, help me to see myself in your own point of view so as not to be celebrating the lifestyle you have cursed in Jesus’ name.

CONDITIONAL BLESSINGS - Part 1

Topic: CONDITIONAL BLESSINGS = Part 1

PROTECTION & ANSWER TO PRAYER

MEMORIZED: "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Acts 2:21)._

SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 91:14-16.

“"Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation."”

EXPOSITION:

Blessing is the release of virtues and fortunes upon someone that is special to us. It usually comes from the higher authority to the lesser ones. It can come from father to children, or from mentor to the mentee… etc In the case of divine blessing, it comes directly from God to the people. Isaiah 51:2 says, “Look to Abraham your father, And to Sarah who bore you; For I called him alone, And blessed him and increased him." The blessing of God on Abraham brought great divine increase upon his and his descendants.

There are lots of unconditional blessings which is meant for general public, the wicked not excluded, such as rain fall, sun shine, fresh air, food for all the living souls, clothing to everyman, shelter for everyone, etc

But there are special blessings which are specially preserved for the obedient children of God. Because it is special, there are some conditions attach to them. Let us examine some of them.

Psalm 91:14-16 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”

These are special blessings as given in Psalm 91:14-16:

i. …Therefore I will deliver him; 

ii. I will set him on high, 

iii. He shall call upon Me, 

iv. I will answer him; 

v. I will be with him in trouble; 

vi I will deliver him and 

vii. I will honor him.

 viii. With long life I will satisfy him, 

ix. And show him My salvation."

But the access code to unlock and enjoy these blessings is:

i. "Because he has set his love upon Me, - v. 14. Any man that does not set his love on Christ shall not be delivered in the day of trouble except only if unconditional mercy of God speaks for such a person. Of a truth, people enjoying this mercy are not common. Remember, He first love us, therefore, He want us to reciprocate the love back to him. If you don’t love Him, you will be working against Him and His purpose. 

ii. He also said, “because he has known my name” v. 14. It takes knowing His name before calling Him. Only the righteous will run into that name and be saved. “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.” Prov. 18:10. The reason why many people run to the herbalist and other ungodly places for help in time of trouble is because they don’t know His name. Therefore, they don’t trust it for safety. He also have said in His word, “Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD, They would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies. For the turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them.” Proverbs 1:24-32.

Will you get yourself connected to His blessings or remain disconnected? Know for sure that, “…for without Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5.

PRAYER POINT: LORD, I receive the grace to obey the condition for and be connected with your divine blessings in Jesus’ name.

BE SLOW TO CONDEMN

Topic: BE SLOW TO CONDEMN

MEMORIZED: "When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person" (Job 22:29 KJV).

SCRIPTURE READING: Job 22:21-30.

“Acquaint now yourself with Him [agree with God and show yourself to be conformed to His will] and be at peace; by that [you shall prosper and great] good shall come to you. Receive, I pray you, the law and instruction from His mouth and lay up His words in your heart. If you return to the Almighty [and submit and humble yourself before Him], you will be built up; if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents, If you lay gold in the dust, and the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brook [considering them of little worth], And make the Almighty your gold and [the Lord] your precious silver treasure, Then you will have delight in the Almighty, and you will lift up your face to God. You will make your prayer to Him, and He will hear you, and you will pay your vows. You shall also decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light [of God’s favor] shall shine upon your ways. When they make [you] low, you will say, [There is] a lifting up; and the humble person He lifts up and saves. He will even deliver the one [for whom you intercede] who is not innocent; yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.” Amplified Bible. 

EXPOSITION:

Sometimes, we think we have a better knowledge of what God commands than others. Worse still, we inadvertently erect a standard of expectation for others far beyond what God demands. Some people feel good doing this because they believe they're helping them. But in reality, they are destroying whatever little faith in God others have left.

Such was the effect of the words of Job's friend, Eliphaz. When he started his speech, he commended Job for all the good and notable things he had done. But soon, he began to hint that there may be need for him to repent from some unknown sins. He urged him to turn to God and be forgiven. Thereafter, he would begin to prosper greatly; the Almighty shall protect him, and he would delight in God. When he prays, God will hear; whatever he decrees shall be done. God should shine His light on him; lift him up and save him from all his troubles. These are all truths; only that they did not apply to Job and his circumstances.

Many injuries have been inflicted as a result of rash judgements and insinuations that are totally untrue. Some young believers in faith have had to backslide as a result to receiving condemnation from those whose duty is to make them grounded in faith.

We must ensure at all times that we do not condemn those God has justified. Even when we see people suffering from many adversities, we must not hastily assume that it is because of their sins. Of course, where we see obvious sins, we should encourage them to repent and turn to God. But if they are living as believers, we should assure them of the unfailing promises of God and affirm to them His faithfulness to help His children.


PRAYER POINT: LORD, give me the enabling grace to lift up the hands which hang down and the feeble knees in Jesus’ name.

TRUSTING GOD, OUR HELPER

Topic: TRUSTING GOD, OUR HELPER

SCRIPTURE READING: PSALM 115:1-11.

“Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth. Why should the Gentiles say, "So where is their God?" But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases. Their idols are silver and gold, The work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear; Noses they have, but they do not smell; They have hands, but they do not handle; Feet they have, but they do not walk; Nor do they mutter through their throat. Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them. O Israel, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield. You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.

EXPOSITION:

One of the stories from Kathryn Kuhlman's book, “I believe in Miracles,” tells the story of a couple, Charles and Given Woods whose elder daughter, thirteen-year-old Cheryl suffered greatly from epileptic seizures which kept on aggravating. Doctors had all done all they could without any clue. The girl, brilliant and athletic, fell in school in one of the games which gradually developed into a nightmare for the family that the mother wished she would die to end her excruciating sufferings. But while attending Kuhlman's revival service, the father heard a voice saying, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee..." To the glory of God, during their second visit, the young girl was completely healed.

Our text can be summarised under three main ideas. One, all glory must be given to God alone for His mercies as He remains the sovereign God (verses 1-3); two, the idols of the heathen are lifeless and useless (verses 4-8); three, we are to trust in God because in Him lies our help (verses 9-11). Without God, man is hopeless and helpless. He is our present help in trouble. Think of Abraham who lived in a strange land, prospered, became old and eventually went to heaven. David fought many battles and never lost any. Paul the apostle traveled to diverse nations to preach the gospel and he established many churches. God helped them all.

Our help comes from God who neither sleeps nor slumbers. He shall preserve us from all evil as we trust Him. Unfortunately, many still think their wealth, position and education can save them. Those things cannot, and will not save. We must keep on trusting Him because His thoughts towards us are thoughts of peace - to give us an expected end. We should always trust God to "Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man." Earthly help is short-lived but God's is peaceful and long-lasting.


PRAYER POINT: 

i. Lord, I put my trust and confidence in you for unfailing help. Help me every day of this new week in Jesus name.

ii. Lord, in this world of insecurity, protect me, my family and loved ones from all evil of this new week in Jesus name

JUSTIFICATION

SATURDAY, 16TH JULY, 2022

Topic: JUSTIFICATION 

MEMORIZE: “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.” Romans 3:28 

SCRIPTURE READING: Romans 3:23-28.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law." 

EXPOSITION

Justification and righteousness are inseparably united in Scripture by the fact that the same word (Greek, "dikaios", means "righteous"; Greek, "dikaioo", means "to justify") is used for both. The believing sinner is justified because Christ, having borne his sins on the cross, has been "made unto him righteousness" (1Cor. 1:30). 

God’s righteousness, is God's consistency with His own law and holiness in freely justifying a sinner who believes in Christ; that is, one in whose behalf Christ has met every demand of the law (Romans 10:4).

Justification originates in grace; (Rom 3:24; Tit 3:4; Tit 3:5) is through the redemptive and propitiatory work of Christ, who has vindicated the law; (Rom 3:24; Rom 3:25; Rom 5:9) is by faith, not works; (Rom. 3:28-30; Rom. 4:5; Rom. 5:1; Gal. 2:16; Gal. 3:8; Gal 3:24) and may be defined as the judicial act of God whereby He justly declares righteous one who believes on Jesus Christ. It is the Judge Himself (Rom 8:31-34) who thus declares. The justified believer has been in court, only to learn that nothing is laid to his charge. (Rom 8:1; Rom 8:33; Rom 8:34). Hallelujah!!!!!!!! We are no longer under condemnation of sin, flesh and satan, we are free indeed though the redemptive work of Christ. We must therefore walk in reality of this through our faith in the Son of God, Jesus Christ.


ACTION POINT: 

Justification comes only by faith in Jesus Christ. This becomes the point of our gospel message to the sinners. Tell others about the justification power of the gospel.

THE CREATION OF MAN

Topic: THE CREATION OF MAN

Exposition of Genesis 1:26-28.

MEMORIZE: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness :and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26. 

SCRIPTURE READING: Genesis 1:26-28.

“Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." 

EXPOSITION

Man. (Gen. 1:26); (Gen. 1:27); gives the general, (Gen. 2:7); (Gen. 2:21-23) the particular account of the creation of man. The revealed facts are:

(1) Man was created not evolved. This is expressly declared, and the declaration is confirmed by Christ (Matt. 19:14); (Mark 10:6);

(b) "an enormous gulf, a divergence practically infinite" (Huxley) between the lowest man and the highest beast, confirms it;

(c) the highest beast has not race of God-consciousness—the religious nature;

(d) science and discovery have done nothing to bridge that "gulf."

(2) That man was made in the "image and likeness" of God. This image is found chiefly in man's tri-unity, and in his moral nature. Man is "spirit and soul and body" (1Thessalonias 5:23).

"Spirit" is that part of man which "knows" (1Cor. 2:11) and which allies him to the spiritual creation and gives him God-consciousness. "Soul" in itself implies self-consciousness life, as distinguished from plants, which have unconscious life. In that sense animals also have "soul" (Gen. 1:24). But the "soul" of man has a vaster content than "soul" as applied to beast life. It is the seat of emotions, desires, affections (Psalm 42:1-6). The "heart" is, in Scripture usage, nearly synonymous with "soul." Because the natural man is, characteristically, the soulual or physical man, "soul" is often used as synonymous with the individual, for example (Gen. 12:5). The body, separable from spirit and soul, and susceptible to death, is never the less an integral part of man, as the resurrection shows; (John 5:28); (John 5:29); (1Cor. 15:47-50); (Rev. 20:11-13). It is the seat of the senses (the means by which the spirit and soul have world-consciousness) and of the fallen Adamic nature. (Rom. 7:23); (Rom. 7:24).


PRAYER POINT: 

Lord, help me to understand your word that I may value my creation more and not to sin against you in Jesus name.

RECEIVING TO GIVE

SCRIPTURE READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-9.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time. For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.”

EXPOSITION:

A man had a bar where he sold alcoholic beverages. He was a very cruel and violent man whose presence conjured terror for his wife and ten-year-old daughter. A visible mark on the left arm of the young lady was a constant reminder of her father's brutality. But one day, something 'strange' happened. A preacher came to Mr. Graham to explain the mercies and love of God through Jesus Christ. The man listened with rapt attention and demanded to know if such measures could be extended to a man like him. On receiving an assurance from the preacher, he surrendered his life to Christ and became a changed person. For the first time, his daughter saw him smile and happy. Later, he asked for the wife's and daughter's forgiveness and took them to the church where they also gave their lives to Christ. Peace, love and joy came to the family. That is the power of the gospel.

In the passage, Paul the apostle reminded the Corinthian Christians of the authenticity of the gospel message - the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Christ - which he received that transformed his life and which he passed on to them as well.

The gospel message has such a transforming power that no matter how deep one might have gone in cultism, idol worship, atheism, drug addiction, immorality, etc. if he sincerely repents and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, salvation comes. The mercy of God is still available today. "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely" (Revelation 22:17).

As Paul received the true gospel and passed it on to others, so must every true believer do. The Lord's command is "...Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). It is a task that must be done.


THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The gospel message changes sinners to saints.


PRAYER POINT:

Lord, empower your word in our mouths to brings harvest of souls into your kingdom in Jesus name.

"Now when He concluded all His sayings in the  hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum. And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear  to him, was sick and ready to die. So when he  heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to  Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his  servant. And when they came to Jesus, they  begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for  whom He should do this was deserving, “for  he loves our nation, and has built us a  synagogue.” Then Jesus went with them. And when He  was already not far from the house, the  centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him,  “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not  worthy that You should enter under my roof. Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to  come to You. But say the word, and my servant  will be healed. For I also am a man placed  under authority, having soldiers under me. And I  say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another,  ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do  this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard these things, He marveled  at him, and turned around and said to the crowd  that followed Him, “I say to you, I have not found  such great faith, not even in Israel!” 10 And  those who were sent, returning to the house,  found the servant well who had been sick. 


EXPOSITION

A centurion is the Roman Army commander in charge of 100 soldiers, with quite a lot of autority, being directly in contact with the soldiers. The office was normally the highest an ordinary soldier could rise to. He had many duties besides maintaining discipline within the ranks. The centurion in today's Scripture reading was a gentile, but possessed some godly virtues that caught Jesus' attention (Lk. 10:25-37). Hence, Jesus was amazed at his rare faith. Here are some of the spectacular things about him:

1.  HE CARED: 'And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear to him' (v. 2). Can you imagine a mere servant being dear to this highly placed man? How many masters would be that concerned about their servants?

2.  HE RECOGNISED AND ACKNOWLEDGED: This man heard about Jesus and acknowledged Him as Lord that has power and authority to heal the sick (v. 3).

3.  HE WAS DESERVING because of his challenging testimony (v. 4): He deserved the healing he requested for, by popular opinion.

4.  HE LOVED: 'for he love our nation' (5a). The centurion loves the people and it is known to the people that he loved them and their nation.

5.  HE GAVE TO GOD AND HIS PEOPLE (v. 5b). He built a worship place for the people to show his interest in them and their religion: 'and has built us a synagogue' (v. 5b).

6.  HE WAS HUMBLE: 'For I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof. Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You' (vv. 6b,7a).

7.  HE HAD GREAT FAITH. His faith in the Word of God was unprecedented: 'I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel' (v. 9b).

These being a mirror, and you stand before it, what do you see about yourself? Think, and make amends where necessary.


PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, help me to continue to see myself in the mirror of Your Word, and grant me the grace to make the necessary amends.

2. Lord, give me holiness, care, concern, faith, love, humility, and reverence for You.

Topic: ALTARS IN YOUR HOME – Part 2

MEMORIZE: “And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.” - 1Samuel 7:17.

SCRIPTURE READING: “And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.” Genesis 12:7-8.

EXPOSITION:

Today, we want to look further to examine more altars we are to have in our families. These altars are all equally important if we will secure our home for God in this turbulence time. The remaining altars are the following…

3)  Father and Mother's Altar: Following the mother's altar is the combination of father and mother on the altar. If we have fathers and mothers who don’t pray together, then we have shambolic home! Husbands and wives who do not pray together lose 9000 since two shall chase 10000, and One can only chase 1000!

4)  Children's Altar: The children also are not left out. They are to be taught how to pray before coming to the general family altar. Personal quiet time of the children should not be toyed with, for it will assist them *(Prov. 22:6).

5) General Family Altar: This is the point where every member of the family gathers for prayers, studies, discussions, rebukes, praises, vigils, etc. All members must be made to participate in this regular refreshing process.

Teach your children to learn how to have personal altar and family altar for daily unbroken relationship (communion) with God. It is high time we returned to this order, for things to be orderly in our homes. Christ-centered families joyfully embrace this. Stay united in the Lord.


PRAYER POINT:

i. Lord, I surrender and release all my family members unto you, create your fear and honor into their heart in order to have an unbroken relationship with you in Jesus name.

ALTARS IN YOUR HOME

MONDAY, 11TH JULY, 2022.

Topic: ALTARS IN YOUR HOME – Part 1

MEMORIZE: 'A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out." Leviticus 6:13.

SCRIPTURE READING: Leviticus 6:12-13

"And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings. 'A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out." 

EXPOSITION:

If the home is in order, the church and, by extension, the society will be in order. Altar is a very significant point. It is a place where sacrifice is offered. If there is no altar, no platform for making atonement for sin *(Lev. 9:10)*. Christ's blood was shed on the cross of Calvary, the altar where our sins' remission was perfected. The patriarchs of faith made altars at every significant encounter with God *(Gen. 8:20; 22:9; Exod. 17:15)*. Today, altar has become mobile, i.e. in our hearts. At home, there should be 5 altars that should work together for edification (Ephesians 4:1ff):

1)  FATHER'S ALTAR: As the head, he must keep an altar. He must have personal relationship with God. On his personal altar, he prays, meditates in the Word, and keeps vigils. If the father can do this, Satan cannot gain entrance into the house *(Ezek. 33:7)*, He is the watchman and gateman of his house.

2)  MOTHER'S ALTAR: Just like the father, the mother should have her personal altar. Even though they (husband and wife) share the same room and bed, the two principal altars cannot clash. It depends on how they handle it.

If the parents are prayerless, the children will automatically become unprotected. This is the reason why many destinies got trapped down in the hand of the enemies, because the parents were unable to secure the future of their children – their individual altars are dead and not functional. If every father and mother can wake up into having effective prayer altar, the next generation will surely be the luckiest. Godliness will be the identity of every city and nations of the world.

As a parent, you must not continue disappointing God who has made you a father/mother. Rise up and built an effective altar of relationship with God and of security around your family.


PRAYER POINT:

i. Lord, I receive grace and power not to leave my family unprotected and insecure in Jesus name.

ii. Lord, I receive divine enablement to have a functional personal altar in communion with God in Jesus name.

TOPIC: DO NOT SAY, "I WILL PAY THEM BACK"

SCRIPTURE READING: Romans 12:17-21 (NKJV)

"Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."


EXPOSITION:

What is your first reaction when someone does something to you that you do not like? If you are anything like me, your immediate reaction is probably negative. And likely includes some thought of paying them back in kind. That seems to be an inborn part of our human nature.

But this proverb tells us not to respond in kind. To not make plans to pay them back for what they did. We are not told here how we should react instead. But Jesus makes it clear how we should respond. In Luke 6:27-28, he tells us to "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you." That is so contrary to my nature. Yet, it is what I am called to do.

Responding like that can go a long way toward resolving conflict between people. And it will have a positive impact on the testimony of my life. But, most of all, it allows me to walk closer to my Lord, following the example he set for me.


PRAYER POINT:

Lord, I release my battles unto you, avenge and fight for me in Jesus name.

EVANGELISE THE WORLD

TOPIC: EVANGELISE THE WORLD

MEMORIZE: But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.  2 Timothy 4:5

SCRIPTURE READING: 2 TIMOTHY 4:1-5

“I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”

EXPOSITION:

In his final letter, Paul charges Timothy his son in the faith, to do the work of an evangelist (2 Timothy 4:5). By this, the Apostle establishes the instruction of Jesus for believers across generations preach the gospel everywhere. If we would be called by His name, we must obey His command every day, urging people to come to Jesus for salvation. “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:18. Jesus has given all believers the ministry of reconciliation, the task to bring all men to Him. Are you active or dormant in this ministry? 

The work of an evangelist is to lead people to Christ through the gospel. Unlike a Pastor, an evangelist does not disciple souls, but a Pastor can be an evangelist. As an evangelist, you are constantly looking for and preaching to the people in the world. After they have accepted Christ, you can then hand them over to a BibIe-believing Church where a much mature believer can disciple them.

EVANGELISM IS DIFFERENT FROM FOLLOW-UP OR PUBLICITY. 

It is bringing people into the love of Christ. Now that you know what it is, can you say you have been doing the work of an evangelist? Are you constantly preaching Christ to people in the world? Are there still people in your vicinity who you are yet to preach to?.“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" Mark 16:15. Jesus wants you to do His work wherever you go and whatever you do. He wants us to have compassion for lost souls and draw them into the Kingdom. If I were you, I would obey.  Your obedience demonstrates your love for Him and will draw untold blessings to you (John 14:15, Matthew 6:33). Evangelising is a mandate every believer receives at the point of salvation. We must also preach that same Gospel to others so they can be saved.

PRAYER POINT:

LORD, Help me to obey your mandate and be fruitful in evangelism and soul-winning in Jesus name.

MEMORIZE: "When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And there they are, hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver under it.” (Joshua 7:21).

SCRIPTURE READING: Joshua 7:19-21

“Now Joshua said to Achan, "My son, I beg you, give glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession to Him, and tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me." And Achan answered Joshua and said, "Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and this is what I have done: "When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And there they are, hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver under it.”

EXPOSITION:

Coveting: Coveting is the third stage of the enemies of joy and greatness. To covet is to wish, long, or crave for something, especially the property of another person. Covetousness is a great sin against God. Achan  coveted the spoils of Jericho: a very expensive gold and a Babylonian garment. He wiped away from among the Israelites together with his family members. “Now Joshua said to Achan, "My son, I beg you, give glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession to Him, and tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me." And Achan answered Joshua and said, "Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and this is what I have done: "When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And there they are, hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver under it." So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent; and there it was, hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.” Joshua 7:19-22. Coveting what does not belong to you makes you a thief of others’ goods, ideas and/or joy. What you got through covetousness can never add value to your life. Desist from it.

Lord, deliver me from these enemies of joy and greatness today and always in Jesus name.

"C" ENEMIES OF JOY & GREATNESS – Part 2

COMPETING

MEMORIZE: "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." (Ps 139:14).

SCRIPTURE READING: Genesis 37:3-4. 

“Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colors. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him.” 

EXPOSITION:

COMPETING

The second stage of the enemies of joy and greatness is to be enviously competing with others. The outcome of comparing yourself with others leads you to competing with others, so as to have joy. People in this realm of living only have joy when they see themselves better than the people around them. To achieve this, they are ready to do what others can do and even to do it better to remain the best. The spirit of competition never appreciates what others are doing or their best. He always wants his own to be the best. To this effect, he can do anything to silence others whom he sees as rivals to him. Where there is spirit of competition, there is death and destruction. We must shun the life of competition. You have your own life to live and your destiny to fulfill. God did not create you to compete with anyone, rather to complement on another in the journey of life to be fruitful and fulfilled in what He has for your life.

Joseph’s brothers hated him because they compared themselves to him and discovered that their father loved him exceedingly more than them all… they thought of competing with his destiny by silence him. They never felt pleased with their own destinies. When they later saw him in his royalty, they learned their lesson in hard way. Desist from competing with others, but seek the face of God, let Him order your steps right and you shall be fulfilled.

Like the Psalmist, always have it in your mind and declare it on daily basis that, "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." (Ps 139:14).


PRAYER POINT: 

i. Lord, I receive grace to be fulfilled in your purpose for my life without competing with anyone enviously in Jesus name.

ii. I receive the grace to be the best you have destined for my life in Jesus name.

3 "C" ENEMIES OF JOY & GREATNESS – Part 1

WEDNESDAY, 6TH JULY, 2022.

Topic: 3 "C" ENEMIES OF JOY & GREATNESS – Part 1

COMPARING

MEMORIZE: "As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness." (Psalm 17:15).

SCRIPTURE READING: Proverbs 18:20-21.

“A man's stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth, From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”

EXPOSITION:

When we talk of enemies of joy and greatness, there are some components that can be considered. But here, we want to look into three words with letter Cs.

Comparing:  This is act of not being satisfied with who you are and what you have, thereby comparing yourself with others. Each time you see people doing better than you, you will surely earn yourself sorrow, bitterness and anger. Whenever you compare yourself with someone else, you may not see good in yourself, because what become your best can never stand before another person’s worse. We have our satisfaction and sufficiency in/through Christ Jesus – “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.” 2 Cor. 3:5.

According to our memory scripture, we should be satisfied in beholding the face of God as we long to be awaken in the last day in His likeness. "As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness." (Psalm 17:15). Therefore, we should be pronouncing good things about ourselves. Seeing good in your making, irrespective of your current level of living. Don’t forget, “A man's stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth, From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”


PRAYER POINT:

i. Lord, I receive grace to be satisfied in purpose for my life. I trust that you have created me to be the best you have for me in your eternal purpose in Jesus name. 

ii. I shall make you happy in my living and be happy in my self too in Jesus name.

SERVING TWO MASTERS?

TUESDAY, 5TH JULY, 2022.

Topic: SERVING TWO MASTERS?

MEMORIZE: "Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you" (Joshua 23:13).

SCRIPTURE READING: Joshua 23:6-13.

“Therefore be very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, lest you turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left, "and lest you go among these nations, these who remain among you. You shall not make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause anyone to swear by them; you shall not serve them nor bow down to them, "but you shall hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have done to this day. "For the LORD has driven out from before you great and strong nations; but as for you, no one has been able to stand against you to this day. "One man of you shall chase a thousand, for the LORD your God is He who fights for you, as He promised you. "Therefore take careful heed to yourselves, that you love the LORD your God. "Or else, if indeed you do go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations-these that remain among you-and make marriages with them, and go in to them and they to you, "know for certain that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the LORD your God has given you.”

EXPOSITION:

The tragedy of serving two masters is that it puts on the supposed servant the onerous responsibility of constantly adjusting his loyalty based on anticipated favours from each master rather than the master's demand. He will end up rendering eye service. "No man can serve two masters," the scriptures states emphatically.

Joshua succeeded Moses as Israel's leader. He had led them over the years and had been used of God in various mighty ways. Now, he was approaching the end of his life and needed to drum it into their ears the conditions for God's protection and security. He harped continuously on separation from the surrounding heathen nations in all matters of marriage and worship as the Lord had commanded through Moses. He did not stop just at that; he proceeded to list out inescapable consequences of their disobedience: the traps, scourge and thorn that would afflict them until they perished.

Likewise, ministers and leaders in God house must warn the congregation against sin. The conditions that the people faced in Bible days are obviously prevailing today. Unequal yoke in marriage, business and false worship characterize the lifestyle of many so-called Christians today. Believers must be warned to resist with all vehemence, all attraction to unequal yoke and ungodly relationships. 

As he go out today, do not give in to worldly pressure to join evildoers. Be determined and trust in the power of God to carry you through. After all, Christ has promised in the Scripture that "my grace is sufficient for thee."

No man can serve two masters.


PRAYER POINT: 

Lord JESUS, I confess you as my Lord and Master. I leave all other gods and hold unto you only in Jesus name.

I WILL TRUST GOD IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES

Topic: I WILL TRUST GOD IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES

MEMORIZE: "Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation." Habakkuk 3:18.


SCRIPTURE READING: Habakkuk 3:17-19.

Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls- Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer's feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills”. 


EXPOSITION:

In Our present generation, people have defined the condition by which they will praise and serve God… It is when things are going on smoothly as planned. But the moment they are faced with hard time, they begin to see God as wicked and unfaithful. He that created the day is the creator of the night. He that formed the good is the same Who created the bad (evil). He does not tempt us with evil, but nothing can happen without His approval. As a child of God, it must not be only when things are favourable to you that you will serve and praise God, even when facing difficulties, God never change and we must never stop praising and serving Him.


Prophet Habakkuk wrote, “Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls- Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” Habakkuk 3:17-18. Every one desired fruitful vine, life and labour, but the prophet said, life and things around may appear not fruitful as desired, “Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” Habakkuk 3:17. Why will he still trust God in this situation? Because only God can help us in the days of trouble, He becomes our strength to sustain us till that evil time be over. We must see God the same way. “The LORD God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer's feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills.”.


PRAYER POINT: 

Lord, I confess you are my strength, make my feet like deer’s feet in the day of trouble to sustain me and make me walk on my high hills in Jesus name.

Topic: IT TAKES COURAGE TO DO THE WILL OF GOD

MEMORIZE: ""Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. "Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go." (Joshua 1:6-7).

SCRIPTURE READING: JOSHUA 23:11-13.

“Therefore take careful heed to yourselves, that you love the LORD your God. "Or else, if indeed you do go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations-these that remain among you-and make marriages with them, and go in to them and they to you, "know for certain that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the LORD your God has given you.”

EXPOSITION:

Courage is the ability to do something that is frightens one. To be courageous is to be brave in facing challenge and doing what others believed it is difficult to do. In this our generation, doing the will of God seems to be something unachievable or too hard to meet up to. Many even believed no one can do the will of God perfectly without compromising. But the truth remains that, doing the will of God is possible and doing it perfectly is also achievable. These are things you need to know and do:


1. NEED FOR COURAGE

a. God told Joshua that he needed courage to do the will of God in Joshua 1:6,7.

b. Joshua himself, as a successful veteran warlord, also emphasized the same to others - Joshua 23:6,7.

c. Why do you think you need courage to do God's will at all times? Think less of intimidation of the enemies, implications on loved ones, uncertainty of short and long term effects, initial losses and persecutions, influences of destructive forces etc when the will of God is to be done. Be strong and of good courage. Do it!


2. NECESSITY OF CLEAVING - v. 8-10

Courage is strengthened by cleaving to the Lord and His word of assurance – v. 8-10.

a. Cleaving implies that you are holding fast to His word and promises - v8.

b. To every will of God, there is at least a promise for divine backing and blessings. Discover it - v. 9,10.

c. You cannot be courageously moving in the pathway of God's will and be torn in pieces by lions - v. 9,10. God is always on the side of the obedient – v. 9,10.

d. Can you recall some of the precious promises of God for your situation?

This is the time to cleave to the Lord


3. THE NONSENSITY OF COMPROMISE – vs.11-13.

Compromise will never bring lasting blessings and favour. The compromiser will eventually be consumed, entangled and disgraced by the compromise. The best and rewarding option is to obey God at all times.

Question: Is there any area of God's will you are compromising? Repent and surrender before it is too late.


PRAYER POINT: 

i. Lord, give me courage of heart never to shrink from doing your will.

ii. Lord, draw me closer and give me more love of the Spirit to draw closer to you at this time.

iii. Lord, I hereby make up my mind never to be a compromiser. Give me grace.

iv. Lord, visit your children who are fainting or compromising because of present challenges with grace and courage.

Topic: DO NOT BE ANXIOUS ABOUT ANYTHING

MEMORIZE: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7.

SCRIPTURE READING: Philippians 4:6-7.

EXPOSITION:

This is such a relevant passage for the days we live in. There are so many things happening that we could be anxious about. COVID-19 disrupts life; super-powers threaten conflict; instability in the political, economic, and social arenas threatens our way of life; and persecution for our faith is common in many parts of the world. There is indeed much that we could be anxious about.

But Paul encourages us not to be anxious about any of that. Instead of being worried about things you have no control over, surrender them to God. That is no guarantee that trouble will not come into your life. In fact, you can be reasonably confident that you will face difficulties in this life, regardless of how faithfully you pray about them.


KNOW GOD'S PEACE

But what is promised us is the peace of God. A peace that is beyond our ability to comprehend fully. A peace that will serve as a guard on our hearts and minds. Amid the turmoil and confusion that characterizes life in this world, I can experience peace rather than anxiety. And I am so thankful for that.


PRAYER POINT: 

LORD, I received grace to wait on completely and wholeheartedly in Jesus name.
