WHEN OTHERS MISUNDERSTOOD YOUR GOOD DEEDS - Part 1

SATURDAY, 30TH JULY, 2022

Topic: WHEN OTHERS MISUNDERSTOOD YOUR GOOD DEEDS – Part 1

MEMORIZE: "Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken." (Amos 5:14).

SCRIPTURE READING: John 12:3-8.

“Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who would betray Him, said, "Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it. But Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. "For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always."”

EXPOSITION:

Action and motive are two things in life that are inseparable; they journey together always. Our motive is what God judges mostly, not our action. Many times, our deeds may be good but the motive behind it might be evil and selfish. On the other time, people may judge our action to be evil and uncalled for, yet the motive will be God-honouring and blessed.

Such is the case with Mary’s action, the sister of Lazarus (who was raised from the dead on the fourth day by our Lord Jesus – John 12:1). She came with a very precious “costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair.” John 12:3. This looks foolish. Judas Iscariot said, "Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?"… But Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial."For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always." John 12:4-8.

Brethren, people around you may not see good in what you are doing. They may call your giving attitude toward kingdom service a waste. They may call you fool for being religious. They may call you all kinds of names because you are submissive to your spouse in love and fear of God. Remember, they are not God. Let your action and your motive be in line with God, let it wins divine approval and your accusers shall be silenced.

PRAYER POINT:

Lord, I receive grace to remain secure in you and see things in your own way in Jesus name.

DAILY BIBLE READING IN A YEAR – Isaiah 8-10.
