"C" ENEMIES OF JOY & GREATNESS – Part 2

COMPETING

MEMORIZE: "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." (Ps 139:14).

SCRIPTURE READING: Genesis 37:3-4.

“Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colors. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him.”

EXPOSITION:

COMPETING

The second stage of the enemies of joy and greatness is to be enviously competing with others. The outcome of comparing yourself with others leads you to competing with others, so as to have joy. People in this realm of living only have joy when they see themselves better than the people around them. To achieve this, they are ready to do what others can do and even to do it better to remain the best. The spirit of competition never appreciates what others are doing or their best. He always wants his own to be the best. To this effect, he can do anything to silence others whom he sees as rivals to him. Where there is spirit of competition, there is death and destruction. We must shun the life of competition. You have your own life to live and your destiny to fulfill. God did not create you to compete with anyone, rather to complement on another in the journey of life to be fruitful and fulfilled in what He has for your life.

Joseph’s brothers hated him because they compared themselves to him and discovered that their father loved him exceedingly more than them all… they thought of competing with his destiny by silence him. They never felt pleased with their own destinies. When they later saw him in his royalty, they learned their lesson in hard way. Desist from competing with others, but seek the face of God, let Him order your steps right and you shall be fulfilled.

Like the Psalmist, always have it in your mind and declare it on daily basis that, "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." (Ps 139:14).

PRAYER POINT:

i. Lord, I receive grace to be fulfilled in your purpose for my life without competing with anyone enviously in Jesus name.

ii. I receive the grace to be the best you have destined for my life in Jesus name.
