LEARNING ETERNAL LESSONS DURING UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCES

WEDNESDAY, 16TH NOVEMBER, 2022.

Topic: LEARNING ETERNAL LESSONS DURING UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCES

MEMORIZE: "Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O LORD, according unto thy word" (Psalms 119:65).

SCRIPTURE READING: Psalms 119:65-72.

65 Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O LORD, according unto thy word. 66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments. 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.  68 Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes. 69 The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart. 70 Their heart is as fat as grease; but I delight in thy law. 71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes. 72 The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

EXPOSITION:

When you are passing through unpleasant experiences how do you do? Become discouraged, despondent, doubtful, disorganized, dysfunctional, etc?

The Psalmist said, “I turned my unpleasant experiences into learning experiences because I know there are eternal lessons God want me to learn.”  What did you learn during your afflictions? The Psalmist said, "It is good for me that I have been afflicted". It helped me to learn God's immortal truth which I had not learnt before the afflictions, v71. Actually,  "before I was afflicted I went astray" but I thought all was alright with me, v67, as you may say. Thank God for the afflictions as you may conclude.

But, Is that all?

Psalmist further said, I turned it to a time of deep reflections guided by the word of God. I discovered that God "has dealt well with me...according to His word"; He is not to be blamed but to be blessed. God is good, vv65, 68. Lord, teach me to always reflect positively on your word at all times🙏

How come this revelation knowledge about God?

Psalmist gave the answer that it was also a praying time; not only to be delivered from afflictions but that God will teach me..., vv66 says, “Teach me good judgment and knowledge, For I believe Your commandments.” And God answered.

1. God, in His wisdom, allows His own to pass through a brief "hell" on earth so as to learn and escape eternal hell.

2. God is too loving to subject the apple of His eyes to light afflictions without a loving reason for it. Cheer up! God is good all the time.

PRAYER POINTS:

i. Father in heaven, be teaching me deep things of your word so that I might have unshakeable convictions of the truth🙏

ii. Pray for brethren passing through afflictions that God will deliver them and help them to learn what God want them to learn.
