EXPOSITION
Forgiveness is the key to having lasting relationship. Forgiveness comes from heart of perseverance and tolerance. Where there is no forgiveness, bitterness and anger will be the order of the day. Unforgiveness builds resentment and revenge. It is capable of killing someone or acting wrongly that one will later regret it. Unforgiveness makes us enemies of God because we do not be like God. Our own forgiveness from God is solely anchored on our forgiveness to those who have wronged us. The prayer pattern our Lord Jesus Christ thought us says, “And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.” Luke 11:4. He further said, “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Mark 11:25-26.
Why should we forgive others?
1. We should forgive others because it is a command from God, we must forgive others for God to forgive us our sins. And we should know that our sins against God is of greater measure.
2. Because rapture will soon take place and no sinner shall be rapturable, including unforgiving fellow.
3. For our own peace of mind. You will definitely be embittered and lose your peace of mind whenever you see those who have hurt you. This may lead to unhealthy living such as hypertension or stroke. Sometimes, we wait for the offender to apologise to us for the wrong they have done to us before we forgive them. They may come and some may not come either because of their pride or fear of what they likely face in confronting you. Whatever be the case, you must learn to hold unto God and forgive them all for the sake of heaven and our relationship with God.
4. For us to be at peace both with God and men. As it is written, “Follow peace with all men and holiness, without which no one shall see God.” Hebrews 14:12.
The prodigal son does not deserve to be forgiven, but his father forgave him and even celebrated his return. We must forgive others sincerely with love of God.
Prayer Point:
1. Lord, help me to have and exercise my victory over the spirit of unforgiveness In Jesus Name.
2. Lord, I release and forgive from my heart all who have offended me in Jesus name.
BIBLE READING IN A YEAR – Genesis 43-46.
