MAKE GOD YOUR HIGHEST PRIORITY

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE FOR WEDNESDAY, 1ST MARCH, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: MAKE GOD YOUR HIGHEST PRIORITY

MEMORIZE: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33.

SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 6:25-34.

“25 Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 "Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 "So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 "and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 "Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 "For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

EXPOSITION:

Priority is the status established in order of importance or urgency. We place of our request and our schedules base based on priority. On earth, we place great importance on our daily basic needs: What to eat, clothes to wear, shelter to live, work to do to meet those needs and numerous others. But many so believe in their human strength to achieve their dreams without God’s involvement. Jesus Christ in our today’s study is telling us the importance of placing our priorities right. Jesus asked, “"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them.” Matthew 6:26.

Which of you, the wisest, the strongest of you, by taking thought, can add one cubit to his stature? (Mt 6:27) to his age, so some; but the measure of a cubit denotes it to be meant of the stature, and the age at longest is but a span, Ps 39:5. Let us consider,

Thoughtfulness for the morrow is needless; Let the morrow take thought for the things of itself. If wants and troubles be renewed with the day, there are aids and provisions renewed likewise; compassions, that are new every morning, Lamentation 3:22, 23 says “It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”.  The saints have a Friend that is their arm every morning, and gives out fresh supplies daily (Isa 33:2 “O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.”), according as the business of every day requires (Ezra 3:4 “They kept also the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the custom, as the duty of every day required;”), and so he keeps his people in constant dependence upon him. Let us refer it therefore to the morrow's strength, to do the morrow's work, and bear the morrow's burden. To-morrow, and the things of it, will be provided for without us; why need we thus anxiously care for that which is so wisely cared for already? This does not forbid a prudent foresight, and preparation accordingly, but a perplexing solicitude, and a prepossession of difficulties and calamities, which may perhaps never come, or if they do, may be easily borne, and the evil of them guarded against. The meaning is, let us mind present duty, and then leave events to God; do the work of the day in its day, and then let tomorrow bring its work along with it.

The conclusion of this whole matter then is, that it is the will and command of the Lord Jesus, that his disciples should not be their own tormentors, nor make their passage through this world more dark and unpleasant, by their apprehension of troubles, than God has made it by the troubles themselves. By our daily prayers we may procure strength to bear us up under our daily troubles, and to arm us against the temptations that attend them, and then let none of these things move us.

"Seek this thing first – the Kingdom of God and its righteousness; first in your days: let the morning of thy youth be dedicated to God. Wisdom must be sought early; it is good beginning betimes to be religious. And all other good things needed in life shall be added as you need them, because he loves you and cares for you – “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7.

ACTION POINT: Seek the first every day – which is God. Let your waking thoughts be of God. Let this be our principle, to do that first which is most needful, and let him that is the First, have the first.

DO NOT GIVE WHAT IS HOLY TO THE DOGS

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For TUESDAY, 28th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: DO NOT GIVE WHAT IS HOLY TO THE DOGS

MEMORIZE: “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.” Matthew 7:6.

SCRIPTURE READING: Proverbs 9:7-9.

“He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself. 8 Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.”

EXPOSITION:

The holy thing is a valued thing. While dogs is a symbol of sacrilegious thing.  The dogs cannot know the value of a precious thing. In this case, God is liking godly advice to holy thing while the scorner is like dogs that never values godly advise and correct (rebuke). It is not everyone that is fit to be reproved; Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, Matthew 7:6. This may be considered, either,

(1.) As a rule to the disciples in preaching the gospel; not that they must not preach it to anyone who were wicked and profane (Christ himself preached to publicans and sinners), but the reference is to such as they found obstinate after the gospel was preached to them, such as blasphemed it, and persecuted the preachers of it; let them not spend much time among such, for it would be lost labour, but let them turn to others. Acts 13:41“Behold, you despisers, Marvel and perish! For I work a work in your days, A work which you will by no means believe, Though one were to declare it to you.'”

(2.) As a rule to all in giving reproof. Our zeal against sin must be guided by discretion, and we must not go about to give instructions, counsels, and rebukes, much less comforts, to hardened scorners, to whom it will certainly do no good, but who will be exasperated and enraged at us.  Throw a pearl to a swine, and he will resent it, as if you threw a stone at him; reproofs will be called reproaches, as they were (Luke 11:45; Jeremiah 6:10), therefore give not to dogs and swine (unclean creatures) holy things.

Taking to the godly advice makes one a wise, Proverbs 12:15 “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.”

PRAYER POINT: Lord, give me wise heart to do the right thing right in Jesus name.

PRAISES FROM UNPOLLUTED HEART

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE for MONDAY, 27th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: PRAISES FROM UNPOLLUTED HEART

MEMORIZE: “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name”  Psalm 100:4

SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 24:3-4

“Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully.”

EXPOSITION:

Men are created special in their creation with the purpose that is also special from other creatures. We are created and redeemed to show forth the praises of God who have redeemed us. 2 Peter 2:8 says “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”

Therefore we must come before his presence with singing, not only songs of joy, but also songs of praise. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, Psalm 100:4.  We must not only comfort ourselves, but glorify God, with our joy, and let him have the praise of that which we have the pleasure of.  Be thankful to him and bless his name; that is, we must intermix praise and thanksgiving with all our services. This golden thread must run through every duty (Heb 13:15), for it is the work of angels. In everything give thanks, in every ordinance, as well as in every providence.

But before our presence and praises can be accepted before God, we must possess a pure heart and clean hands. “Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully.”  Psalm 24:3-4. Any praise coming from a polluted heart can not enter his presence not to talk of being accepted. Each time David sinned, God in his love do chastises him and in return he usually sorry for his sins and repented. A repented heart, washed by the blood of Jesus is the one that can offer unpolluted praise unto God, who is holy.

PRAYER POINT:  Lord, I sanctify my heart by the blood of Jesus Christ and make me holy and acceptable to you in Jesus name.

THE LORD STRONG AND MIGHTY

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For SUNDAY, 26th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer*

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: THE LORD STRONG AND MIGHTY

MEMORIZE: *“The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name."* Exodus 15:3.

 *SCRIPTURE READING:  PSALM 24:7-10*

"⁷ Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. ⁸ Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. ⁹ Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. ¹⁰ Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory."

 *EXPOSITION* :

The word "Strong" by English definition means “To be very powerful and difficult for people to fight against or defeat.”

“To hold an opinion or a belief very firmly and seriously not to be changed by any means.”

“Not easily upset or frightened, nor easily influenced by other people.”

“An act of being determined to do what you want to do, even if other people advise not to.”

“To be firmly established, difficult to destroy or to be defeated...”

Strong and mighty are military terms speaking of having strength that oppositions cannot confront or defeat. God the Father as well as the Son, Jesus Christ, are referred to as Strong and Mighty. The first war took place in heaven when Satan, the old dragon, staged war against God in attempt to overthrow Him. He was conquered and thrown out of heaven into the earth. It was written that *"And they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony..."* Revelation 12:11. That proves the Lamb of God strong and mighty over the devil and his hosts.

God the Father is called Man of war. *“The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name."* Exodus 15:3. 4

Job said concerning God that no one contends with God and prospers. *"He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?"* Job 9:4.

David boasts of the strength of God as he confronted Goliath, the champion of the Philistines, in the name and strength of the Lord of hosts. *"Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied."* 1 Samuel 17:45.

He is the Judge of the earth. He will judge the devil, demons and the people both the dead and the living. *"Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud."* Psalms 94:2

*"And He commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is He which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead."* Acts 10:42

*"To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,"* Hebrews 12:23.

Therefore any man with God is more than conquerors. Those who allied themselves with God overcome the world. *"Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."* Romans 8:37.

Jehoshaphat got victory without a fight when God fought for him 2 Chronicles 20. When God fought for Abijah, he subdued him enemies under him all his days. *"And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephraim with the towns thereof. Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and the LORD struck him, and He died."* 2 Chronicles 13:19-20. (Read 2 Chronicles 13:1-end).

PRAYER POINT: Lord, I desire and pray to be the carrier of Your presence always as the Strong and Mighty God in Jesus name.

WHO IS YOUR CHOICE

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For SATURDAY, 25th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer
Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: WHO IS YOUR CHOICE?

MEMORIZE: “And Elijah came to all the people, and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people answered him not a word.” 1 Kings 18:21.

SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Kings 18:27-39.
“27 And so it was, at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, "Cry aloud, for he is a god; either he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened." 28 So they cried aloud, and cut themselves, as was their custom, with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them. 29 And when midday was past, they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice. But there was no voice; no one answered, no one paid attention. 30 Then Elijah said to all the people, "Come near to me." So all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down. 31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD had come, saying, "Israel shall be your name." 32 Then with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD; and he made a trench around the altar large enough to hold two seahs of seed. 33 And he put the wood in order, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood, and said, "Fill four waterpots with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice and on the wood." 34 Then he said, "Do it a second time," and they did it a second time; and he said, "Do it a third time," and they did it a third time. 35 So the water ran all around the altar; and he also filled the trench with water. 36 And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, "LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word. 37 "Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that You are the LORD God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again." 38 Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God!"”

EXPOSITION:
Today is another crucial day in epic of this country, Nigeria. Today is globally tagged “Nigeria decides” It is the day Nigerians shall decide who shall be their leader base on trust and competence. People will exercise their civil right. Some will choose rightly while many will choose otherwise. But who is your choice? I know you have an answer and reason for it.

But far beyond choosing human political leader is the choice of who shall be your God. There are gods and the true God. Concerning the worshippers of idols (gods), the word of God says, “2 Why should the Gentiles say, "So where is their God?" 4 Their idols are silver and gold, The work of men's hands. 5 They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; 6 They have ears, but they do not hear; Noses they have, but they do not smell; 7 They have hands, but they do not handle; Feet they have, but they do not walk; Nor do they mutter through their throat. 8 Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them.” Psalm 115:2,4-8.

In this psalm, sufficient care is here taken to answer both the pretensions of self and the reproaches of idolaters. It shows that their gods are senseless things.  Idolaters, at first, worshipped the sun and moon (Job 31:26), which was bad enough, but not so bad as that which they were now come to, which was the worshipping of graven images or objects, Ps 115:4. The matter of them was silver and gold, dug out of the earth (man found them poor and dirty in a mine, Herbert), proper things to make money of, but not to make gods of. The make of them was from the artificer; they are creatures of men's vain imaginations and the works of men's hands, and therefore can have no divinity in them. If man is the work of God's hands (as certainly he is, and it was his honour that he was made in the image of God) it is absurd to think that that can be God which is the work of men's hands.

The worship of idols is a most ridiculous thing, and it is but justice to represent it so and expose it to scorn. This will, by no means, justify those who ridicule the worshippers of God in Christ because the worship is not performed just in their way. Baal's prophets were so far from being convinced and put to shame by the just reproach Elijah cast upon them that it made them the more violent and led them to act more ridiculously. A deceived heart had turned them aside, they could not deliver their souls by saying, Is there not a lie in our right hand?

Elijah said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people answered him not a word. Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God!"” 1 Kings 18:21, 38, 39. Choose right today by giving the ownership of your soul unto Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world and you shall live. Ponder on this word of God in John 3:16-19 “"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”.

KEY POINT: Whether you accept it or not, "The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God!"” 1 Kings 18:39. Confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour today and you shall have eternal life.

BEWARE OF FALSE PROPHETS

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For FRIDAY, 24th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: BEWARE OF FALSE PROPHETS

MEMORIZE: “And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many.” Matthew 24:4-5.

SCRIPTURE READING: Matt. 7:15-20.

"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 "You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 "Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 "A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 "Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”

EXPOSITION:

Our Lord Jesus warned us to beware of false prophets, not to be deceived and imposed upon by them. Prophets are properly such as foretell things to come; there are some mentioned in the Old Testament, who pretended to that without warrant, and the event disproved their pretensions, as Zedekiah, 1Ki 22:11, and another Zedekiah, Jer 29:21. But prophets did also teach the people their duty, so that false prophets here are false teachers.  Christ being a Prophet and a Teacher come from God, and designing to send abroad teachers under him, gives warning to all to take heed of counterfeits, who, instead of healing souls with wholesome doctrine, as they pretend, would poison them.

They produce false commissions, and pretend to have immediate warrant and direction from God to set up for prophets, and to be divinely inspired, when they are not so. Though their doctrine may be true, we are to beware of them as false prophets. False apostles are those who say they are apostles, and are not (Re 2:2); such are false prophets. "Take heed of those who pretend to revelation, and admit them not without sufficient proof, lest that one absurdity being admitted, a thousand follow."

They preach false doctrine in those things that are essential to religion; and teach that which is contrary to the truth as it is in Jesus, to the truth which is accordingly to godliness.

REASONS FOR THIS CAUTION TO BEWARE OF THEM

1. They are wolves in sheep's clothing, Mt 7:15. Because their pretences are very fair and plausible, and such as will deceive us, if we be not upon our guard. They come in sheep's clothing, in the habit of prophets, which was plain and coarse, and unwrought; they wear a rough garment to deceive, Zechariah  13:4.

2. Under these pretensions their designs are very malicious and mischievous; inwardly they are ravening wolves.  Every hypocrite is a goat in sheep's clothing; but a false prophet is a wolf in sheep's clothing; not only not a sheep, but the worst enemy the sheep* has, that comes not but to tear and devour, to scatter the sheep (Joh 10:12), to drive them from God, and from one another, into crooked paths.

THE RULE TO GO BY IN THIS CAUTION

1. We must prove all things. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 – “Test all things; hold fast what is good.”,

2. Try the spirits. 1 John 4:1 “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”,

3. You shall know them by their fruits, Mt 7:16-20 “"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

Well, beware of them, suspect them, try them, and when you have discovered their falsehood, avoid them, have nothing to do with them. Stand upon your guard against this temptation, which commonly attends the days of reformation, and the breakings out of divine light in more than ordinary strength and splendour." When God's work is revived, Satan and his agents are most busy.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, expose and disgrace every false prophet and defend your name in Jesus name.

NOT BETTER THAN THE VICTIMS

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For THURSDAY, 23ND FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: NOT BETTER THAN THE VICTIMS

MEMORIZE: “Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.” Matthew 11:21

SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 13:1-5.

“There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answered and said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. "Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."”

EXPOSITION:

When we see evil befalling people around us, we quickly judge them that it happened because they are wicked or that they have secret sin. We easily justify ourselves to be righteous just because God’s grace preserves us. Jesus came to tell us that it is not so. “And Jesus answered and said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. "Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem?"I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." If we refused to repent our sins, what happened to others that we are condemning will also happen to us. If we refuse to be his friend, the punishment prepared for the enemies will also be extended to us. No one is too big or special before God than to be punished.

Jesus said, “Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.” Matthew 11:21. Christ came into the world to bless us; but if that blessing be slighted, he has woes in reserve, and his woes are of all others the most terrible. These two cities were situate upon the sea of Galilee, the former on the east side, and the latter on the west, rich and populous places; Bethsaida was lately advanced to a city by Philip the Tetrarch; out of it Christ took at least three of his apostles: thus highly were these places favoured! Yet because they knew not the day of their visitation, they fell under these woes, which stuck so close to them, that soon after this they decayed, and dwindled into mean, obscure villages. So fatally does sin ruin cities, and so certainly does the word of Christ take place!

Now Chorazin and Bethsaida are here compared with Tyre and Sidon, two maritime cities we read much of in the Old Testament, that had been brought to ruin, but began to flourish again; these cities bordered upon Galilee, but were in a very ill name among the Jews for idolatry and other wickedness. Christ sometimes went into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon (Mt 15:21), but never thither; the Jews would have taken it very heinously if he had; therefore Christ, to convince and humble them, here shows, that Tyre and Sidon would not have been so bad as Chorazin and Bethsaida. If they had had the same word preached, and the same miracles wrought among them, they would have repented, and that long ago, as Nineveh did, in sackcloth and ashes.

Christ, who knows the hearts of all, knew that if he had gone and lived among them, and preached among them, he should have done more good there than where he was; yet he continued where he was for some time, to encourage his ministers to do so, though they see not the success they desire. Our repentance is slow and delayed, but theirs would have been speedy; they would have repented long ago. Ours has been slight and superficial; theirs would have been deep and serious, in sackcloth and ashes. Yet we must observe, with an awful adoration of the divine sovereignty, that the Tyrians and Sidonians will justly perish in their sin, though, if they had had the means of grace, they would have repented; for God is a debtor to no man.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, help me not to walk in the path of destruction in Jesus name.

QUENCHING THE RAGE OF THE ENEMIES

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE

WEDNESDAY, 22ND FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: QUENCHING THE RAGE OF THE ENEMIES

MEMORIZE: “Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” Ephesians 6:16.

SCRIPTURE READING: Exodus 23:27-28.

"I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. "And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you.”

EXPOSITION:

There is a great war being waged in the world today. It is not a conflict between nations, tribes, or government leaders. It is not a rebellion or a coup. It is an invisible battle taking place in the spirit world. Every believer is engaged in this invisible war. It is a war where no one wears a uniform, but where everyone is a target. The historical and prophetical record of this war is contained in God's Word, the Bible.

To understand this invisible war, you must first understand the natural and spiritual worlds. Man exists in two worlds: The natural world and the spiritual world. The natural world is that which can be seen, felt, touched, heard, or tasted. It is tangible and visible. But there is another world in which you live. That world is a spiritual world. You cannot see it with your physical eyes, but it is just as real as the natural world in which you live.

In I Corinthians 15:40, Paul speaks of this division of natural and spiritual. He says there is a natural (terrestrial) body and there is a spiritual (celestial) body. All men have a natural body which lives in the natural world, but man is also a spiritual being with an eternal soul and spirit. Man is body, soul, and spirit. Your spiritual being (soul and spirit) is part of a spiritual world just as your natural body is part of the natural world.

SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT

Because spiritual warfare is just that--spiritual--it must be understood with a spiritual mind. In our natural, sinful state we cannot understand spiritual things: “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (I Corinthians 2:14). It is necessary to use spiritual discernment to understand spiritual things. Perhaps one of the best examples of natural and spiritual discernment is recorded in II Kings chapter 6. It is the story of a natural battle in which troops of the enemy nation of Syria had surrounded a small town called Dothan where the prophet Elisha was staying. When Elisha's servant, saw the great host of the enemy he became fearful. Elisha prayed that God would open his spiritual eyes so he could see the angelic hosts surrounding and protecting them. On this occasion, God actually opened his natural eyes and allowed him to visibly see the superior forces of God aligned for battle.

The story of this battle at Dothan is similar to present spiritual conditions in the Church. There are some, like Elisha, who see clearly into the realm of the spirit. They know there is a conflict occurring, have identified the enemy, and recognize the greater forces of God that assure victory. There are others like Gehazi who, with a little encouragement, will be able to open their spiritual eyes and no longer be fearful of and defeated by the enemy. But sadly, there are many people who, like those in the city of Dothan, are spiritually sleeping. They do not even know that the enemy has surrounded them and is poised for attack. Being on the Lord’s side, you can quench the rage of the enemy through the help of the Holy Spirit. He will send his army (hornet) before you to fight for you - Exodus 23:27-28 "I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. "And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you.”

PRAYER POINT: Lord fight  my battle for me and give me victory in Jesus name.

GOD IS OUR GUARD AGAINST ATTACKS OF THE ENEMIES

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For TUESDAY, 21ST FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: GOD IS OUR GUARD AGAINST ATTACKS OF THE ENEMIES

MEMORIZE: “The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, My hand shall destroy them.'” Exodus 15:9

SCRIPTURE READING: Jeremiah 15:20-21

“Therefore thus says the LORD: "If you return, Then I will bring you back; You shall stand before Me; If you take out the precious from the vile, You shall be as My mouth. Let them return to you, But you must not return to them. And I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall; And they will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you; For I am with you to save you And deliver you," says the LORD. "I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked, And I will redeem you from the grip of the terrible."”

EXPOSITION:

The mission of the enemy is to see their evil desire fulfilled upon their victims. After the children of Israel crossed the red sea on dry ground, Moses sang the song of victory describing what Pharaoh and the Egyptians planned to do, had it been they lived to fulfill it. “The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, My hand shall destroy them.'” Exodus 15:9

A formidable invasion of Jehoshaphat's kingdom by the Moabites, and Ammonites, and their auxiliaries - 2 Chronicles 20. Jehoshaphat was surprised and frightened when he heard that they had already entered his country. What pretence they had to quarrel with Jehoshaphat does not appear. Several nations joined in this confederacy, but especially the children of Lot, “For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You: The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites; Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. Selah” Psalm 83:5-8.

When he lost confidence in himself, he sought the Lord of hosts for intervention, and God, the help of the helpless rose up to help him by giving him victory without a fight. God brought confusion into the camp of the enemies and they killed one another until no one escape. When you make God your ally (friend), He becomes your defence. He becomes enemy to your enemy and fights your battle for you. The Psalmist says, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence… 14 "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation."” Psalm 91:1-3, 14-16.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, any force ordered to attack my spiritually, physically or otherwise, attack them for my sake and render their mission unfulfilled in Jesus name.

ii. Lord, laugh at the preparation of my enemy against me and abort their plans against my life in Jesus name

GUARD AGAINST SUDDEN ATTACKS

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For MONDAY, 20th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: GUARD AGAINST SUDDEN ATTACK

MEMORIZE: “Do not be a terror to me; You are my hope in the day of doom. Let them be ashamed who persecute me, But do not let me be put to shame; Let them be dismayed, But do not let me be dismayed. Bring on them the day of doom, And destroy them with double destruction!” JEREMIAH 17:17-18.

SCRIPTURE READING: JEREMIAH 17:12-18.

“A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary. O LORD, the hope of Israel, All who forsake You shall be ashamed. "Those who depart from Me Shall be written in the earth, Because they have forsaken the LORD, The fountain of living waters." Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved, For You are my praise. Indeed they say to me, "Where is the word of the LORD? Let it come now!" As for me, I have not hurried away from being a shepherd who follows You, Nor have I desired the woeful day; You know what came out of my lips; It was right there before You. Do not be a terror to me; You are my hope in the day of doom. Let them be ashamed who persecute me, But do not let me be put to shame; Let them be dismayed, But do not let me be dismayed. Bring on them the day of doom, And destroy them with double destruction!”

EXPOSITION:

Sudden attack is an act of physical violence to hurt or kill someone believing to be an enemy without him/her seeing it coming. Attack is also defined as a strong criticism in speech or writing. Prophet Jeremiah was a victim of sudden attack because of his prophetic ministry from the king and his cabinet. On several occasion he was beaten, starved and imprisoned. Life was almost fumed out of him, if not for God’s timely intervention and encouragement. Attack of the enemy is never what any man can desire.

Let us consider the sudden attack that struck David and his men at Ziklag… If he had foresee it, he would not have carried all his men out in favour of Philistines. If not the love of God for him that guided him right to where their families were held hostage, it would have been an unrecoverable lost for him and all his men. Attack of the enemy usually reduces a strong man to a lazy one. David wept bitterly with his men. The same manner many mighty men of our generation had been reduced to victims of defeat, ridicule and shame. Many revivalists of yesterday took the grace of God upon their lives for granted like Samson, proud of their ego, were suddenly struck by their enemies when least expected. They fell and were unable to again.

Don’t fall prey to the enemy before you learn how to guard yourself against their sudden attack. Because it is not all attacks that the victims can come out of it. No other power can defend and protect man except God’s power. Therefore, put on the whole armour of God that you may be able to withstand the evil day – “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Eph. 6:11-13.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, protect me from the attacks of the enemies in Jesus name.

STOP SHIFTING THE BLAME

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For SUNDAY, 19th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: STOP SHIFTING THE BLAME

MEMORIZE: “And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.” 2 Samuel 12:13

SCRIPTURE READING: Isaiah 6:5-7.

“Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:  And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.”

EXPOSITION:

Sin is violation of law. Its mission is to separate man from God and ushers in fear. Its punishment is death. “For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23. God’s verdict is that “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”  Proverbs 28:13.

Humanity since their fallen in the Garden of Eden has chosen the life of shifting blames. When God called Adam, he quickly said, “Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?" So he said, "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself." And He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?" Then the man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate."”  God is not in any way pleased with anyone who shifts blame.

When David was confronted with his sin, he acknowledged his sins and admitted it. He was also sorry for it, not boasting in it – 2 Samuel 12:13. Like David, every God-fearing person must admit their sins and accept its consequence and thereafter repent from it sincerely, instead of blaming others for your iniquities. David said, “I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.” Psalm 32:5. “For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight-That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge.” Psalm 51:3,4.

2 Samuel 12:13 “And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.”

Isaiah 59:12-13 “For our transgressions are multiplied before You, And our sins testify against us; For our transgressions are with us, And as for our iniquities, we know them: In transgressing and lying against the LORD, And departing from our God, Speaking oppression and revolt, Conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.”

Ezra on behalf of the returnee confessed their sins and of their fathers – “And I said: "O my God, I am too ashamed and humiliated to lift up my face to You, my God; for our iniquities have risen higher than our heads, and our guilt has grown up to the heavens. "Since the days of our fathers to this day we have been very guilty, and for our iniquities we, our kings, and our priests have been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plunder, and to humiliation, as it is this day.” Ezra 9:6-7

When you have encounter with the glory of God, you shall see yourself clearly as God sees you. Isaiah saw the glory of God, he instantly acknowledged his uncleanliness and admitted it. Upon his confession, God stepped in for his cleansing. When you acknowledge your sins and admit it, God will forgive you. The nature of this forgiveness was stated in Psalm 103:11-14 thus: “For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children, So the LORD pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.”

Henceforth, stop blaming others for your sins. Admit your sin, ask for forgiveness and God will forgive you. But when you keep shifting the blaming, it shows you are increasing your sins, you cannot receive forgiveness in this way.

PRAYER POINT: Examine the occasions in which you have lied against someone / shift blame to justify yourself, sincerely confess them to God and ask for forgiveness. God will pardon you by his mercy.

DEEP CONSECRATION

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE for SATURDAY, 18th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: DEEP CONSECRATION

MEMORIZE: “Joshua told the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you’” (Joshua 3:5).

SCRIPTURE READING: – Judges 13:3-5, 12-14

“3 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. 4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: 5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines…12 And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?  13 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware. 14 She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.”

EXPOSITION:

Consecration is the devoting or setting apart of anything to the worship or service of God. God, who by the right of creation is proprietor and sovereign of all the creatures, here lays claim in particular to the firstborn of the Israelites, by right of protection: Sanctify to me all the firstborn. That which is by special distinguishing mercy spared to us should be in a peculiar manner dedicated to God's honour; at least some grateful acknowledgment, in works of piety and charity, should be made, when our lives, or the lives of our children, have been given us for a prey. The race of Abraham and the tribe of Levi were thus consecrated – “Sanctify unto me all the firstborn, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is mine. 12 That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix, and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the LORD'S. 15 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.” (Ex. 13:2, 12, 15; Num. 3:12). The Hebrews devoted their fields and cattle, and sometimes the spoils of war, to the Lord – “Notwithstanding no devoted thing, that a man shall devote unto the LORD of all that he hath, both of man and beast, and of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy unto the LORD. None devoted, which shall be devoted of men, shall be redeemed; but shall surely be put to death.” (Lev. 27:28, 29). According to the Mosaic law the first-born both of man and beast were consecrated to God. In the New Testament, Christians are regarded as consecrated to the Lord (1 Pet. 2:9).

In the Bible the word consecration means “the separation of oneself from things that are unclean, especially anything that would contaminate one’s relationship with a perfect God.” Consecration also carries the connotation of sanctification, holiness, or purity. The importance of being consecrated or pure in our relationship with God is emphasized in an incident in the book of Joshua. After forty years in the wilderness, the children of Israel were about to cross over the Jordan River into the Promised Land. They were then given a command and a promise: “Joshua told the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you’” (Joshua 3:5).

The people of God were commanded to bathe and change their clothes; the married couples were to devote themselves wholly to the Lord (1 Corinthians 7:1-6). The significance of this command was that in ancient times water was considered a luxury and wasn’t used often for personal hygiene. The bathing and changing clothes symbolized making a new beginning with the Lord. The picture here is that sin is defilement (Psalm 51:2, 7), and we have to be cleansed before we can truly follow God.

Upon consecrating themselves, the children of Israel were assured of God’s promises. The Lord promised that He would do amazing things among them (Joshua 3:5). Just as He opened the Red Sea to deliver them from their Egyptian bondage, He would open the Jordan River and take them into the Promised Land. In fact, this was just the beginning of the miracles God would perform for them in the conquest of the Promised Land. It’s no wonder the psalmist declares, “Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God? You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples” (Psalm 77:13-14).

Another good example of consecrating oneself is that of David upon confessing his sin of adultery. He bathed and changed clothes before he worshiped the Lord (2 Samuel 12:20). This same imagery is also used in the New Testament (Colossians 3:5-14; Ephesians 4:26-27).

The Bible tells believers to be a holy people, separate from the world: “Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you” (2 Corinthians 6:17). Being consecrated is a critical component in our relationship to God and to those in the world. Paul tells us, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:1-2).

In other words, as true believers in Christ, the act of consecration involves our lives being a living sacrifice to Him; we are totally separated from the defilement of the world. Each day, we are to live out our lives as a “holy” and “royal” priesthood to the glory of God, for we are now God’s people (1 Peter 2:9-10).

PRAYER POINT:

i. Lord, I present my life unto you in holy consecration unto You in Jesus name.

ii. Lord, help me not to defile my consecration in Jesus name.

SANCTIFICATION

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For FRIDAY, 17th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: SANCTIFICATION

MEMORIZE: “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” – 1 Peter 1:16

SCRIPTURE READING: – Exodus 19:9-12, 20-22.

“And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD. 10 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes, 11 And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai. 12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death: … 20 And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up. 21 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.  22 And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.”

EXPOSITION:

Sanctification or in its verb form, sanctify, literally means "to set apart for special use or purpose", that is, to make holy or sacred (compare Latin: sanctus). Therefore, sanctification refers to the state or process of being set apart, i.e. "made holy", as a vessel, full of the Holy Spirit of God.

The action of making or declaring something holy. The action or process of being freed from sin or purified. "The process of sanctification takes deliberate action on our part" The action of causing something to be or seem morally right or acceptable.

Sanctification involves more than a mere moral reformation of character, brought about by the power of the truth: it is the work of the Holy Spirit bringing the whole nature more and more under the influences of the new gracious principles implanted in the soul in regeneration. In other words, sanctification is the carrying on to perfection the work begun in regeneration, and it extends to the whole man (Rom. 6:13; 2 Cor. 4:6; Col. 3:10; 1 John 4:7; 1 Cor. 6:19). It is the special office of the Holy Spirit in the plan of redemption to carry on this work (1 Cor. 6:11; 2 Thess. 2:13). Faith is instrumental in securing sanctification, inasmuch as it (1) secures union to Christ (Gal. 2:20), and (2) brings the believer into living contact with the truth, whereby he is led to yield obedience "to the commands, trembling at the threatenings, and embracing the promises of God for this life and that which is to come."

Perfect sanctification is not attainable in this life (1 Kings 8:46; Prov. 20:9; Eccl. 7:20; James 3:2; 1 John 1:8). See Paul's account of himself in Rom. 7:14-25; Phil. 3:12-14; and 1 Tim. 1:15; also the confessions of David (Ps. 19:12, 13; 51), of Moses (90:8), of Job (42:5, 6), and of Daniel (9:3-20). "The more holy a man is, the more humble, self-renouncing, self-abhorring, and the more sensitive to every sin he becomes, and the more closely he clings to Christ. The moral imperfections which cling to him he feels to be sins, which he laments and strives to overcome. Believers find that their life is a constant warfare, and they need to take the kingdom of heaven by storm, and watch while they pray. They are always subject to the constant chastisement of their Father's loving hand, which can only be designed to correct their imperfections and to confirm their graces. And it has been notoriously the fact that the best Christians have been those who have been the least prone to claim the attainment of perfection for themselves.", Hodge's Outlines.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, I receive the grace to walk in the reality of the sanctification brought by the Lord Jesus Christ.

LORD, SHOW ME AND TEACH ME YOUR WAY

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For THURSDAY, 16th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: LORD, SHOW ME AND TEACH ME YOUR WAY

MEMORIZE: “Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths." Psalm 25:4.

SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 25:4,5.

“Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.”

EXPOSITION:

There are two distinctive requests in our today’s devotional: i. Show me your way, Oh Lord; ii. Teach me your way, oh Lord. We ask for way when we don’t know the way and we ask for knowledge of what we don’t know before. The Psalmist in our scripture reading today begs for direction from God in the way of his duty, Ps 25:4-5.  Once and again he here prays to God to teach him. He was a knowing man himself, but the most intelligent, the most observant, both need and desire to be taught of God; from him we must be ever learning.  Observe these points:

1. What he desired to learn:

"Teach me, not fine words or fine notions, but Your ways, Your paths, Your truth, the ways in which you walk towards men, which are all mercy and truth (Ps 25:10), and the ways in which you would have me to walk towards you."

Those are best taught who understand their duty, and know the good things they should do, Ecclesiastes 2:3. God's paths and his truth are the same; divine laws are all founded upon divine truths. The way of God's precepts is the way of truth, Ps 119:30. Christ is both the way and the truth, and therefore we must learn Christ.

2. What he desired of God, in order to this:

(1.) That he would enlighten his understanding concerning his duty:  "Show me thy way, and so teach me." In doubtful cases we should pray earnestly that God would make it plain to us what he would have us to do.

(2.) That he would incline his will to do it, and strengthen him in it: "Lead me, and so teach me."  Not only as we lead one that is dimsighted, to keep him from missing his way, but as we lead one that is sick, and feeble, and faint, to help him forward in the way and to keep him from fainting and falling. We go no further in the way to heaven than God is pleased to lead us and to hold us up.

3. What he pleads,

(1.) His great expectation from God: Thou art the God of my salvation. Note, Those that choose salvation of God as their end, and make him the God of their salvation, may come boldly to him for direction in the way that leads to that end.  If God save us, he will teach us and lead us. He that gives salvation will give instruction.

(2.) His constant attendance on God: On thee do I wait all the day. Whence should a servant expect direction what to do but from his own master, on whom he waits all the day? If we sincerely desire to know our duty, with a resolution to do it, we need not question but that God will direct us in it.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, like the psalmist I pray, show me your way and teach Your path in Jesus name.

POSSESSING THE GATES OF YOUR ENEMIES IN THE STRENGTH OF GOD

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For WEDNESDAY, 15th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: POSSESSING THE GATES OF YOUR ENEMIES IN THE STRENGTH OF GOD

MEMORIZE: “And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.” 1 Samuel 17:42.

SCRIPTURE READING:

“And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him. 42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance. 43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field. 45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. 46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.  47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands. 48 ¶ And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. 51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.””  1 Samuel 17:41-51.

EXPOSITION:

David had been anointed as king over Israel, yet nobody knew or regarded him as king in Israel, because someone was still occupying the throne. He was reduced to shepherd with his father’s flock. While alone with the flock in the wilderness, God tested his integrity and pastoral care concerning what belongs to others - the flock of his father. In his confession before king Saul, he recalled, “32 And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine… Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.” 1 Samuel 17:32,34-35. Someone may ask, how could an unarmed man confront a lion and a bear, overpowered them and killed them? The answer is, It is God at work in Him. David confirmed this in verses 45, “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.”

The secret behind continuous victories of the children of Israel was the presence of the Lord of hosts with them. Facing the most fortified enemy with God brings sure victory. Though Goliath had been a mighty warrior since his youth, this led to his confidence in himself and his boasting. But the day he fought against his maker, God of Israel, the day he was defeated. God’s presence in a man turns his weakness to strength, failure to success. You can never defeat the devil by your human efforts. God is the reason behind all victory over the enemies.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, I confess your strength over my weakness and victory over all my enemies in Jesus name.

THE IMPACT OF OBEDIENCE IN POSSESSING THE GATES OF YOUR ENEMIES

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For TUESDAY, 14th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: THE IMPACT OF OBEDIENCE IN POSSESSING THE GATES OF YOUR ENEMIES

MEMORIZE: “And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. Joshua 6:2

SCRIPTURE READING: Joshua 6:1-21

“1 Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.  2 And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. 3 And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. 4 And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. 5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.  6 And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD. …16 And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city… 20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. 21 And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.”

EXPOSITION:

Concerning father Abraham, it was the blessing of upon him that his seed shall possess the gates of their enemies, which is talking of continual victory over their enemies. In our today’s memory scripture, the parents of Rebekah blessed their daughter with the same blessing: “And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them.” Genesis 24:60

In our Christian warfare, this should become our daily prayer: To possess the gates of those who hate us. Those who hate the child also hate his parents. Anyone who hates you, hates God, your Creator, too. In our scripture reading today, God gave the working strategy to be used unto Joshua for them to possess Jericho. The condition for possessing Jericho was primarily connected with the wall of Jericho must fall and their natural efforts cannot achieve it. Hence, they need to do it in God’s way. Joshua obeyed God and God-given strategy was followed and the victory was experienced in an unusual manner. They indeed possessed the gates of their enemies – Jericho.

To experience the wonders of God in possessing the gates of the enemies, obedience is non-negotiable. Lots of blessings always follow obeying God. Blessing of victory, of divine provision, of divine guidance, of fruitfulness and increase, of divine security/protection, etc are what obedience brings to the children of God. Abraham obeyed God and God blessed him tremendously. The blessings for Rebekah: “be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them” Gen. 24:60 is meant for only the obedient. It is written: “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:” Isaiah 1:18. It was when Jesus Christ, in his incarnation, obeyed the Father that God also exalts him high above kingdom and thrones and also defeated the devil – “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Phil. 2:7-11.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, help me to be obedient to you and your leading for me to possess the gates of my enemies in Jesus name.

ii. Lord, Bring down my enemy before me; don’t let me fall before my enemy in Jesus name.

iii. Those who are laughing at my calamity, Lord, avenge me upon them and turn their laughter to sorrow in Jesus name.

POSSESSING THE GATES OF YOUR ENEMIES – Part 1

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE For MONDAY, 13th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: POSSESSING THE GATES OF YOUR ENEMIES – Part 1

(THE BLESSING OF GOD)

MEMORIZE: “That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;” Genesis 22:17.

SCRIPTURE READING:

“15 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, 16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: 17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;  18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.”

EXPOSITION:

An enemy is an armed adversary, especially a member of an opposing military force. Enemies are any hostile group of people. He is someone who has declared you as a threat to his/her well being and is ready to launch a defensive attack on you before you prevail over him/her. Your enemy is someone who sees you as dangerous and harmful to their existence. He is someone who sees you as a stumbling block to his success/mission. To possess means to have ownership or possession of something or someone. Possessing the gates of the enemy means having control over the enemy. It means disarming the enemy or having dominion over the enemy. The gate is the access way into the compound. Spiritually, it is entering point into someone’s life. Whoever takes the possession of the gate determines who and what enters in or coming out.

Joshua at Jericho is a good illustration of possessing the gates of the enemy. The Scripture in Joshua chapter 6 verses 1-2 says, “Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour” Because of the children of Israel, the people of Jericho could not go out or come in. They determined the activity that will be allowed in there.

In Genesis 22:17-18 God blessed Abraham because of his obedience that…

* in blessing I will bless thee,

* and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and

* thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

* And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed”

Today, the word of God for you is that, you and your children shall possess the gates of your/their enemies. It doesn’t matter how strong and fortified your enemies are, with God on your side, you shall see their defeat, as Joshua saw the destruction of Jericho. God will send fear to the hearts of your enemies that they will not be able to stand before you. “I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee. And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee.” Exodus 23:27-28. It is the will of God and his blessing upon His children that they shall possess the gates of their enemies. Warning: Don’t be enemy to the children of God.

PRAYER POINT: i. Lord, send your hornets to destroy my enemies before me in Jesus name.

ii. Lord, endow me the strength and divine backup to possess the gates of my enemies in Jesus name.

GOD NEEDS SOMEONE TO SEND

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE for SUNDAY, 12th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic: GOD NEEDS SOMEONE TO SEND

MEMORIZE: “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”– Isaiah 6:8.

SCRIPTURE READING: Isaiah 6:8-10

“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. 9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.”

EXPOSITION:

“Whom shall I send?” Intimating that the business was such as required a choice and well accomplished messenger, “Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?” Jeremiah 49:19. God now appeared, attended with holy angels, and yet asks, Whom shall I send? For he would send them a prophet from among their brethren, Hebrews 2:17.

[1] It is the unspeakable favour of God to us that he is pleased to send us his mind by men like ourselves, whose terror shall not make us afraid, and who are themselves concerned in the messages they bring. Those who are workers together with God are sinners and sufferers together with us.

[2] It is a rare thing to find one who is fit to go for God, and carry his messages to the children of men: Whom shall I send? Who is sufficient?  Such a degree of courage for God and concern for the souls of men as is necessary to make a man faithful, and withal such an insight into the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven as is necessary to make a man skilful, are seldom to be met with. Such an interpreter of the mind of God is one of a thousand, Job 33:23.

[3] None are allowed to go for God but those who are sent by him; he will own none but those whom he appoints, Ro 10:15.  It is Christ's work to put men into the ministry, 1Ti 1:12.

“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” Here is a communication between God and Isaiah about this matter. Those that would assist others in their correspondence with God must not themselves be strangers to it; for how can we expect that God should speak by us if we never heard him speaking to us, or that we should be accepted as the mouth of others to God if we never spoke to him heartily for ourselves?

2. THE CONSENT OF ISAIAH TO IT:

Then said I, Here am I; send me.  He was to go on a melancholy errand; the office seemed to go a begging, and every body declined it, and yet Isaiah offered himself to the service. It is an honour to be singular in appearing for God, Jg 5:7. We must not say, "I would go if I thought I should have success;" but, "I will go, and leave the success to God. Here am I; send me."

Isaiah had been himself in a melancholy frame (Isa 6:5), full of doubts and fears; but now that he had the assurance of the pardon of his sin the clouds were blown over, and he was fit for service and forward to it. What he says denotes,

(1.) His readiness: "Here am I, a volunteer, not pressed into the service."   Behold me; so the word is.  God says to us, Behold me (Isa 65:1), and, Here I am (Isa 58:9), even before we call; let us say so to him when he does call.

(2.) His resolution; "Here I am, ready to encounter the greatest difficulties. I have set my face as a flint." Compare this with Isa 50:4-7.

(3.) His referring himself to God:  "Send me whither thou wilt; make what use thou pleasest of me.  Send me, that is, Lord, give me commission and full instruction; send me, and then, no doubt, thou wilt stand by me."

It is a great comfort to those whom God sends that they go for God, and may therefore speak in his name, as having authority, and be assured that he will bear them out. God needs someone to send, will He find you worthy, ready and available?

PRAYER POINT: Lord, here am I, send me to the glory of your holy name in Jesus name.

WHY DO THE HEATHEN RAGE?

ANCHOR OF LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE for SARTURDAY, 11th FEBRUARY, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Anchor of Life & Redemption Ministry Int’l

Topic:  WHY DO THE HEATHEN RAGE?

MEMORIZE: “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?” Psalm 2:1.

SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 2:1-4.

“1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?  2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.”

EXPOSITION:

Psalm 2 is a prophetic psalm concerning our Lord Jesus Christ. We have here a very great struggle about the kingdom of Christ, hell and heaven contesting it; the seat of the war is this earth, where Satan has long had a usurped kingdom and exercised dominion to such a degree that he has been called the prince of the power of the very air we breathe in and the god of the world we live in.  He knows very well that, as the Messiah's kingdom rises and gets ground, his falls and loses ground; and therefore, though it will be set up certainly, it shall not be set up tamely. Observe here,

The mighty opposition that would be given to the Messiah and his kingdom, to his holy religion and all the interests of it, Ps 2:1-3. One would have expected that so great a blessing to this world would be universally welcomed and embraced, and that every sheaf would immediately bow to that of the Messiah and all the crowns and sceptres on earth would be laid at his feet; but it proves quite contrary. Never were the notions of any sect of philosophers, though ever so absurd, nor the powers of any prince or state, though ever so tyrannical, opposed with so much violence as the doctrine and government of Christ--a sign that it was from heaven, for the opposition was plainly from hell originally.

We are here told who would appear as adversaries to Christ and the devil's instruments in this opposition to his kingdom.  Princes and people, court and country, have sometimes separate interests, but here they are united against Christ; not the mighty only, but the mob, the heathen, the people, numbers of them, communities of them; though usually fond of liberty, yet they were averse to the liberty Christ came to procure and proclaim. Not the mob only, but the mighty (among whom one might have expected more sense and consideration) appear violent against Christ.  Though his kingdom is not of this world, nor in the least calculated to weaken their interests, but very likely, if they pleased, to strengthen them, yet the kings of the earth and rulers are up in arms immediately. See the effects of the old enmity in the seed of the serpent against the seed of the woman, and how general and malignant the corruption of mankind is. See how formidable the enemies of the church are; they are numerous; they are potent. The unbelieving Jews are here called heathen, so wretchedly had they degenerated from the faith and holiness of their ancestors; they stirred up the heathen, the Gentiles, to persecute the Christians. As the Philistines and their lords, Saul and his courtiers, the disaffected party and their ringleaders, opposed David's coming to the crown, so Herod and Pilate, the Gentiles and the Jews, did their utmost against Christ and his interest in men, Ac 4:27.

Who it is that they quarrel with, and muster up all their forces against; it is against the Lord and against his anointed. It is certain that all who are enemies to Christ, whatever they pretend, are enemies to God himself, John 15:24. Jesus is here called the Lord's anointed, or Messiah, or Christ, in allusion to the anointing of David to be king. He is both authorized and qualified to be the church's head and king, is duly invested in the office and every way fitted for it; yet there are those that are against him; nay, therefore they are against him, because they are impatient of God's authority, envious at Christ's advancement, and have a rooted enmity to the Spirit of holiness.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, May all who rise up against us (me and your Church) fall for our sake in Jesus name.
