Topic: DESTROY THE POWERS OF THE MAGICIANS

MEMORIZE: “That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them: But cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day. Joshua 23:7-8.

SCRIPTURE READING: Isaiah 44:24-26.

“Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish; That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:”

EXPOSITION:

God is the creator of the universe and the Owner of it. Of a special treatment he chose Abraham and his descendants through Isaac and Jacob. He sent them to Egypt to multiply them and at the end punished the Egyptians for afflicting them. With His mighty hand He redeemed Jacob thereby becomes the Lord their Redeemer, Isaiah 44:24. 

Note, The work of redemption which God has by his Son wrought for us encourages us to hope for all promised blessings from him. He that has redeemed us at so vast an expense will not lose his purchase. 

In our Bible reading today, God was introducing Himself to the children of Israel as their Creator and their Redeemer. As part of what He did in redeeming them, he “frustrates the tokens of the liars,” He frustrates those who have boast of their strength to carry out their evil mission.

“…and maketh diviners mad;” Divination of false prophets (Deut. 18:10, 14; Micah 3:6, 7, 11), of necromancers (1 Sam. 28:8), of the Philistine priests and diviners (1 Sam. 6:2), of Balaam (Joshua 13:22). Three kinds of divination are mentioned in Ezekiel 21:21, by arrows, consulting with images (the teraphim), and by examining the entrails of animals sacrificed. The practice of this art seems to have been encouraged in ancient Egypt. Diviners also abounded among the aborigines of Canaan and the Philistines (Isaiah 2:6; 1 Sam. 28). At a later period multitudes of magicians poured from Chaldea and Arabia into the land of Israel, and pursued their occupations (Isaiah 8:19; 2 Kings 21:6; 2 Chronicles 33:6). This superstition widely spread, and in the time of the apostles there were "vagabond Jews, exorcists" (Acts 19:13), and men like Simon Magus (Acts 8:9), Bar-jesus (Acts 13:6, 8), and other jugglers and impostors (Acts 19:19; 2 Tim. 3:13). Every species and degree of this superstition was strictly forbidden by the law of Moses (Exodus 22:18; Lev. 19:26, 31; 20:27; Deut. 18:10, 11).

Magician is a person who practices magic or sorcery to enrich themselves using the power of darkness. In Acts 16:16-18 "And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. 18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And He came out the same hour." The girl could only demonstrate as long as Paul permitted her. The force of darkness will be able to manipulate and torment you as long you allow it. 

In Egypt, when God sent Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh to release the children of Israel, Pharaoh also sent for his magicians to compete with God. They tried resisting but God disgraced them. "Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods." Exodus 7:11-12.

Don't tolerate them but rebuke them - their power and works over your life today. Jesus has come to set the captives (you) free. Do not keep quiet at this time. Decree a thing, and it shall be established - "Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways" - Job 22:28. 

PRAYER POINT: Lord, I decree and declare utter destruction upon the powers and mission of diviners and magicians over my life and family In Jesus name.
