MEMORIZE: “Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” 1 Sam. 17:45

SCRIPTURE READING: 2 Samuel 6:2, 18.

2 “And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the LORD of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. 18. And when David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.”

EXPOSITION: As a God of infinite power (Ex 15:3): The Lord is a man of war, that is, well able to deal with all those that strive with their Maker, and will certainly be too hard for them. Exodus 15:3 “The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.”  A name or title of God frequently used in the Old Testament, always translated "Yahweh of Hosts" in the American Standard Revised Version, since Yehōwāh , never 'Ădhōnāy , is used in this phrase. Evidently the meaning of the title is that all created agencies and forces are under the leadership or dominion of Yahweh, who made and maintains them ( Genesis 2:1; Isaiah 45:12 ). It is used to express Yahweh's great power.

“Host” in warfare is a troop or military force. This consisted at first only of infantry. As an Infantry Soldier, you'll serve in the field, working to defend our country against any threats on the ground. You'll capture, destroy, and deter enemy forces, assist in reconnaissance, and help mobilize troops and weaponry to support the mission as the ground combat force.

Solomon afterwards added cavalry (“Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.” 1 Kings 4:26; 10:26). Every male Israelite from twenty to fifty years of age was bound by the law to bear arms when necessary (Num. 1:3; 26:2; 2 Chr. 25:5).

God in 2 Samuel 7:8 introduced himself as the Lord of hosts "Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: "I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel.” God is the mighty man in battle who fights for His own and defends them from the attacks of the enemies. As the man of war, woe is anyone who fights against Him – “Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?” Isa 45:9.

David confronted Goliath in God’s name, the champion of the Philistines was brought down dead, because he fought against his Maker. 1 Samuel 17. Jehoshaphat experienced the wonder of his hand and got victory without a fight – 2 Chronicles 20. He fought for Hannah and rolled away her reproach – 1 Samuel 1, 2. He fought for apostles Peter and Paul and Silas and delivered them from prisons and the expectations of their enemies – Acts 12, 16. He fought for Moses and the Israelites in Egypt and drown the Egyptian army in the red sea. When God fight for you, you shall surely hold your peace. Exodus 14:13-31. He can both handle the physical battles and the unseen ones. Hand it over to Him and you will laugh at last.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, I hand over the battle of my life unto you, fight for me in Jesus name.
