MEMORIZE: “In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.” Isaiah 54:8.

SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Chronicles 7:13-14.

“If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 

EXPOSITION: 

Iniquity is very deadly like cancer. It breaks the fellowship between man and his Maker. It tags man an enemy of God. It is punishable unto death - Romans 6:23. It pollutes the land flowing with milk and honey and corrupt it. It weakens the hands of God’s intervention when enemies come like a flood. In Isaiah 59:1-4, Prophet Isaiah says, “Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.” This is the picture of our nations today. No one is holy; our hands are clean/sinless. We are guilty of many innocent bloods. 

Sin can make God to shut heaven and withold rain and may open heaven to bring fire and brimstones as punishment upon the sinners. But the love of God is so powerful. It compels men to come back to God, no matter how far he/she might have gone sinning. It is written, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:6-8.

God in His love says, “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 1 Chronicles 7:13-14.

God promised to answer the prayers of his people that should at any time be made unto Him, 2 Chronicles 7:13-15. National judgments are here supposed (2Ch 7:13), famine, and pestilence, and perhaps war, for by the locusts devouring the land meant enemies as greedy as locusts, and laying all waste. 

National repentance, prayer, and reformation, are required, 2Chronicles 7:14. God expects that his people who are called by his name, if they have dishonoured his name by their iniquity, should honour it by accepting the punishment of their iniquity. They must be humble themselves under his hand, must pray for the removal of the judgment, must seek the face and favour of God; and yet all this will not do unless they turn from their wicked ways, and return to the God from whom they have revolted. 

 

National mercy is then promised, that God will forgive their sin, which brought the judgment upon them, and then heal their land, redress all their grievances. Pardoning mercy makes ways for healing mercy, Psalm 103:3; Matthew 9:2. 

If we will admit our sins and repent from them and turn to the Lord sincerely, He will have mercy on us and on our land, our nation and heal us completely.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, We are sorry for our sins and the sins of our fathers/leaders, forgive us and heal our land in Jesus name.
