Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE
General Overseer
Topic: STEP UP TO SERVE
MEMORIZE: “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” John 9:4.
SCRIPTURE READING: Nehemiah 2:9-13.
“9 Then I came to the governors beyond the river, and gave them the king's letters. Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me. 10 When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel. 11 So I came to Jerusalem, and was there three days. 12 And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem: neither was there any beast with me, save the beast that I rode upon. 13 And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and the gates thereof were consumed with fire.”
EXPOSITION:
From the time Nehemiah heard about the circumstances in Jerusalem until the completion of the wall, he set an example of what it means to step up and serve the Lord. To what project might God be calling you? What needs will God wants you to meet? Nehemiah had passion to rebuild the broken wall of Jerusalem. Though he was faced with lots of opposition, but he summoned courage to face it and overcome it. The day you choose the path of light, the devil musters his forces against you. But you need not to be afraid; He that is with us is greater than he that is in the world (the devil).
Do you know that what God has assigned you to do would not be given unto another person except you refused to do it. The work of God will never be destroyed, instead of it to be destroyed, it is the worker that will be replaced for continuity. So you must not wait till tomorrow, it may be too late. Act now when it is called today. Jesus says, “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” John 9:4.
In Nehemiah 2:12, That he arose in the night means he concealed his intentions as long as he could because of his enemies, knowing that the life of his business lay in secrecy and expedition. He used beast in order to prevent noise. In verse 13, The footmen who accompanied him directing and leading him in the way. His design was to go round the city, to observe the compass and condition of the walls and gates, that he might make sufficient provisions for the work. Sometimes, the work of God may need to be done without making noise. In all your doing, make sure you do God’s work in His way. It must be acceptable before it can be rewarded.
PRAYER POINT:
Lord, I receive grace to discover your will for my life and to do it in your own way in Jesus name.
