BE SUBMISSIVE ONE TO ANOTHER
MEMORIZE:
" ⁵
Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you
be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God
resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." - 1
Peter 5:5
SCRIPTURE
READING: 1 Peter 5:2-7 (NKJV)
⁵
Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you
be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God
resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." ⁶
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you
in due time."
EXPOSITION:
Humility is a Christian virtue
that produces submission. There cannot be submission where pride is in action. For
our service to be acceptable to God, we must be humble. Having settled and
explained the duty of the pastors or spiritual guides of the church, apostle Paul
comes now to instruct the flock, how to behave themselves to their ministers
and to one another. He calls them the younger, as being generally younger than
their grave pastors, and to put them in mind of their inferiority, the term
younger being used by our Saviour to signify an inferior, Luke 22:26 “But
ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the
younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.” Jesus exhorts those that are younger and
inferior to submit themselves to the elder, to give due respect and reverence
to their persons, and to yield to their admonitions, reproof, and authority,
enjoining and commanding what the word of God requires, Hebrews 13:17 “Obey
them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for
your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and
not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.”.
As to one another, the rule is
that they should all be subject one to another, so far as to receive the
reproofs and counsels one of another, and be ready to bear one another's
burdens, and perform all the offices of friendship and charity one to another;
and particular persons should submit to the directions of the whole society,
Eph 5:21 “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”;
Jas 5:16 “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another,
that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth
much.”. These duties of submission to superiors in age or office, and
subjection to one another, being contrary to the proud nature and selfish
interests of men, he thereby advised them to be clothed with humility. This is
not just an advice but also a command. When we humble ourselves, it is then we
will put on the strength of God which will enable us to resist the devil and he
will flee before us.
PRAYER
POINTS: 1. Lord, let the spirit of humility possess me in the name
of Jesus.
2. Lord, deliver your church And the ministers from
spirit and power of pride in the name of Jesus.
