REPENTANCE AND REGENERATION: INDISPENSABLE

 FRIDAY, 1st DECEMBER, 2023.

Author: PASTOR DR. SAMUEL AYORINDE – General Overseer

Topic: REPENTANCE AND REGENERATION: INDISPENSABLE

MEMORIZE: He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (John 3:18).

SCRIPTURE READING: John 3:16-21

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”

EXPOSITION:

Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God" (Jn. 3:5). Gen. 3:15: God who knows man could fall had eternally provided for man's redemption (Rev. 13:8), and graciously announced this during man's punishment-the Seed of the woman (the Messiah) (cf. 1 Jn. 3:8).

The fact of man's depravity (Rom. 3:23), its consequences (6:23) and man's helplessness (cf. 5:6a) necessitate repentance and regeneration (cf. 2 Chro. 7:14).  2 Cor. 7:10: Repentance is the act of recognising one's wrong and being sorry about it. It goes beyond feeling remorseful about sin to changing one's ways or habits, motivated by godly sorrow. Psalm 51:7,11: The nature of man's heart needs washing by the Lamb's blood and spiritual circumcision (Deut. 30:6) to become new and right (cf. 2 Cor. 5:17).

In. 3:14-17: Just as the serpent was lifted up for the deliverance of God's people in the wilderness, God has a perfect Provision for man's redemption in Christ Jesus (cf. Rom. 5:6,8)-the Gift of God (Rom. 6:23b). Ezk. 18:23: The loving God has no pleasure that the wicked should die (perish) but that he should turn from his ways and live. What a gracious God! Take advantage of His window of grace (Heb. 2:3). As you are hearing His voice NOW, harden not your heart; tomorrow might be too late (cf. Heb.3:8; 4:7).

PRAYER POINT:  Lord, we are sorry for all our sins and iniquities, forgive us, o Lord.

Lord, let sinners have encounter with you that will turn them to you in Jesus name.

Lord, by your redeeming power, deliver the world from the power of sins and wickedness in Jesus name.
