TOPIC: DANGER OF OPERATING OUTSIDE GOD’S SUPERVISION.
MEMORIZE: "My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not." Proverbs 1:10
SCRIPTURE READING: LUKE 15:11-23.
“Then He said: "A certain man had two sons. 12 "And the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.' So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 "And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. 14 "But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. 15 "Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 "And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. 17 "But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 'I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 "and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants."' 20 "And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 "And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.' 22 "But the father said to his servants, 'Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 'And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;”
EXPOSITION:
Living outside God's supervision is very suicidal. A true child of God will always desire his father's presence and companion. The prodigal son in our test today enjoyed all good things as a son as long as he was with his father. Nothing he desired was withheld from him while he was with his father. His life began to go dawn the drain the moment he decided to be independent from his father. He thought he can be great without his father's support. He thought all will be well with him wherever he goes as it were with him In his father's house.
He demanded and got all that belong to him In the inheritance of his father. He went to a far country, a strange land, a land of sin, of iniquity, he immediately had many friends who are eaters and wasters. They soon squandered all he has gathered from his father. Thereafter, a severe famine came up that reduced his value to slave. All he had helped could not help him this time. "Andhewouldgladlyhavefilledhisstomachwiththepodsthattheswineate, andnoonegavehimanything."
This is what a person who chose to life as sinner, isolated away from the love of God. Who will deliver an hardened sinner from an angry God? All that God wants from you is to humble yourself and come to Him In an active relationship. What are you doing that define you as a prodigal son or daughter? It is never a blessed life until you come back to the Lord. People may think you are on the Lord's side, but are you truly on the Lord's side?
Lots are the dangers that accompany living outside God's supervision. It includes the following:
Loss of joy of the Lord
Unanswered prayers
Lack of Divine provision / spiritual famine.
Unrest or lack of peace
Enemies taking over the battle and control one's life.
PRAYER POINT: i. Lord, I come to you with humility unto a healthy relationship in Jesus name.
ii. Lord, restore the backsliders to yourself and make them vessels unto honor in your hands in Jesus name.
