Topic: THE ONLY REASONABLE PERSONALITY TO TRUST - JESUS CHRIST.
MEMORIZE: “Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.” Psalm 37:3.
SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 115:1-14
“Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth. 2 Why should the Gentiles say, "So where is their God?" 3 But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases. 4 Their idols are silver and gold, The work of men's hands. 5 They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; 6 They have ears, but they do not hear; Noses they have, but they do not smell; 7 They have hands, but they do not handle; Feet they have, but they do not walk; Nor do they mutter through their throat. 8 Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them. 9 O Israel, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield. 10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield. 11 You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield. 12 The LORD has been mindful of us; He will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron. 13 He will bless those who fear the LORD, Both small and great. 14 May the LORD give you increase more and more, You and your children.”
EXPOSITION:
Trust is to have a sure confidence in a thing or person with the hope that it will not fail. We put trust in many things and people today and on many occasions they have proved to be untrustable and failing. We have only one source of help that tails not, it is Him Who is Omnipotent. He is powerful and also faithful to His word. Let us examine the Scriptures to see what God is saying concerning what you trust with your life...
1. You Will Always Inherit The Limitations Of The Person Or Things You Are Trusting - v 8.
What are the limitations of the idols some put their trust in? vv5-7. Those limitations are always transfered to those trusting them v8. For example, those who put their trust in "works of men's hand" (e.g. money) will be enslaved by men v4. Those who put confidence in "eyes have they, but they see not" will be spiritually blind v5. He will not see when evil is coming; he will not see the glory of God etc. Check other limitations of people or things that others trust and meditate on how their limitations are spiritually transferred - vv5-7 “5 They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; 6 They have ears, but they do not hear; Noses they have, but they do not smell; 7 They have hands, but they do not handle; Feet they have, but they do not walk; Nor do they mutter through their throat.”.
Question: Who or what are you putting your confidence on? What are their limitations?
2. THE LORD OUR HELP AND SHIELD
Shields are used to intercept specific attacks, whether from close-ranged weaponry or projectiles such as arrows, by means of active blocks. It is written, “As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.” 2 Samuel 22:31 (cf Psalm 18:30).
Question: If God is your shield, whom/what should you be afraid of then? vv 9,10. “O Israel, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.”
If God is your help, then all His attributes will be transferred to you. What are the attributes of God you want imparted to your life now? Ask for the transfer of any attribute of God that is lacking in your life (e.g. unwavering faith, victory over the activities of the wicked, Isaiah 40:28-31).
PRAYER POINT: Lord, I give you all glory and worship because you alone will be my trust and confidence.
Lord, I am clinging to You alone as my Help and Shield. Manifest yourself in my situations.
Lord, let your help and protection from all evils be real in the life of all your children in a time like this.
