TOPIC: WALKING WORTHY OF THE LORD
MEMORIZE: “That you may walk worthy of the Lord fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:10).
SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 16:1-2
“And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.”
EXPOSITION
Fruitfulness is a frequent topic in the New Testament. In the synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke), fruitfulness is presented as of a natural phenomenon while the Gospel of John and the epistles of Paul, clearly reveal that it is the product of God's work within believers through fellowship with Him, by means of the Holy Spirit and His Word. A man with the best rehearsed resolutions of the year cannot live to his promises except he gets born again first, and start living under the power and influence of the indwelling Holy Spirit and the Word.
Our devotional reading for today presents a proverb of an unjust steward whose service brings no profit to his master. As a Christian, you need to evaluate yourself this day in the light of this passage and check how worthy your walk is in God.
Today's memory Scripture points out three salient points in walking worthy of the Lord:
(1) Live to please Him;
(2) Be fruitful in every good work, and
(3) Increase (become mature) in the knowledge of God.
These three goals are of continuous present, and should be, if our Christian works would not be dead works of the flesh but alive, sanctified, of no Wrong motive, and acceptable before God always.
We need to understand, therefore, that the proper knowledge of God through the Word is the means through which qualitative inward growth will eventually result to quantitative outward growth in Christ Jesus. It is time to grow up in the Lord and bear corresponding fruits that are pleasing to Him. Begin today, and you will be glad you did.
PRAYER POINTS: 1. I am a fruitful vine, and I shall be bearing abundant fruit for God.
2. I will walk worthy of the Lord and bring Him glory always.
