Topic: LIFT JESUS HIGH FOR OTHERS TO SEE
MEMORIZE: “Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.” Ephesians 4:8.
SCRIPTURE READING: John 3:14-17
“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 "that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
EXPOSITION:
When the Children of Israel sinned against God by murmuring against Him and his servant, Moses, God sent the fiery serpents unto them that bit many of them to death. They repented and cried unto God through Moses. “Then the LORD said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live." 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.” Numbers 21:8-9.
Jesus said, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 "that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:14-15. Moses was instructed to lift the bronze serpent on the pole to be seen by the people. Today, can you be the pole that will make Jesus known for others in this generation? Can people see Jesus through your life, character, behavior, your conversation, your physical appearance, etc. Can you bear the light of Christ to the world unashamed? No life that is available and useful for the Lord that shall not be cared for. He will beautify them and give gift unto them for them to be more fruitful in His eternal purpose for their lives. “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” John 15:2.
The apostle takes this occasion to specify some of the essence/importance of Jesus being lifted high: “Wherefore he saith (Eph 4:8), that is, the Psalmist saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.” David prophesied of the ascension of Christ; “When he ascended up on high.” We may understand the apostle of the place into which Christ ascended in his human nature into the highest heavens, being highly exalted, and eminently glorified, by his Father.
ACTION POINT: Make yourself available for Christ to be known to others. Lift Jesus high with your life. It is highly rewarding both in time and eternity.
