Topic: EIGHT BIBLICAL COVENANTS – Part 7
THE MOSAIC COVENANT
MEMORIZE: ““Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You!” — Ps 119:11 (NKJV).
SCRIPTURE READING: Exodus 19:22-25 (NKJV)
"Also let the priests who come near the Lord consecrate themselves, lest the Lord break out against them." But Moses said to the Lord, "The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai; for You warned us, saying, 'Set bounds around the mountain and consecrate it.' Then the Lord said to him, "Away! Get down and then come up, you and Aaron with you. But do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the Lord, lest He break out against them. So Moses went down to the people and spoke to them.”
THE MOSAIC COVENANT - (Exodus 19:25).
The law that the Lord gave to Israel was popularly named after Moses, thank the man of God that made to be exceedingly great before Pharaoh, the Egyptians and the people of his time. The components of Mosaic Covenant / Law includes:
(1) The Law was given to Israel and has three distinct divisions.
(2) In three divisions, each is essential to the others, and together forming the Mosaic Covenant, namely:
1. the Commandments, expressing the righteous will of God (Exodus 20:1-26)
2. the "judgments," governing the social life of Israel; (Exodus 21:1; Exo24:11) and
3. the "ordinances," governing the religious life of Israel; (Exo24:12; 31:18). These three elements form "the law," as that phrase is generically used in the New Testament (for example) (Matt. 5:17-18).
The Commandments and the ordinances formed one religious system. The Commandments were a "ministry of condemnation" and of "death"(2 Cor. 3:7-9) the ordinances gave, in the high priest, a representative of the people with Jehovah; and in the sacrifices a "cover" for their sins in anticipation of the Cross; (Heb. 5:1-3; Heb. 9:6-9; Rom. 3:25-26). The Christian is not under the conditional Mosaic Covenant of works, the law, but under the unconditional New Covenant of grace. (Rom. 3:21-27; Rom. 6:14-15; Gal. 2:16; Gal. 3:10-14, 16-18; 24-26; 4:21-31; Heb. 10:11-17).
THOUGHT OF THE DAY: Moses was a great type Of Jesus Christ, the great prophet, who brought the new Covenant to us thereby delivering us from the law And rudiments of men. Appreciate and Celebrate Jesus Christ now and always.
