Topic: REVIVE US AGAIN, O LORD!
MEMORIZE: “Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You?” Psalm 85:6.
SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 85:1-13.
“LORD, You have been favorable to Your land; You have brought back the captivity of Jacob. You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people; You have covered all their sin. You have taken away all Your wrath; You have turned from the fierceness of Your anger. Restore us, O God of our salvation, And cause Your anger toward us to cease. Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger to all generations? Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy, LORD, And grant us Your salvation. I will hear what God the LORD will speak, For He will speak peace To His people and to His saints; But let them not turn back to folly. Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, That glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed. Truth shall spring out of the earth, And righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yes, the LORD will give what is good; And our land will yield its increase. Righteousness will go before Him, And shall make His footsteps our pathway.”
EXPOSITION:
Revival is bringing back to active and meaningful life, that which is dead, dying, sleeping, dormant or docile – God’s people and good legacies, values, norms and dedication (1 Sam. 7:1-6; 2 Kings 22:11-14; Job 24:2; Prov. 22:28; 23:10). Revival is never a foreign idea in the Old Testament. God desires bringing His erring, backslidden people back to Himself. The Church cannot afford to joke with it mostly in our days.
In Psalm 85:6, the Psalmist cried out unto God, “Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You?”. This was after they had been sold into the hands of the enemies and humiliated. They pleaded for mercy in genuine repentance and seek restoration – revival. Revival is not a man-made effort. All that concern man in it is to yarn for it, pray for it and be expectant of it. It is God that releases the true revival and can spread and last longer than human imagination.
Seven requests of the Psalmist to God in regards to revival.
1. Turn us again – Convert us – v. 4.
2. Cause your anger to cease – v. 4
3. Do not be angry forever – v. 5
4. Do not send forth your angry always – v. 5
5. Revive us again = v. 6
6. Show us your mercy – v. 7
7. Grant us your salvation – v. 7
Like the Psalmist, we need to pray the same prayers today both individually and as the body of Christ.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, let send us revival! Let there be revival in my life, home and the Church of God from now on in Jesus name.
